This was a common treat up at syrup camp.

Get one of those sandwich shaped pie irons, buttered bread (on the outside, like a grilled cheese), egg salad... into the arch for a few minutes.

Pretty good.

Consider, of course, that at syrup camp, it's early spring, usually about 35°f, and everyone is doing 12+ hour days of physical labor, and getting hammered with that sweet steam from the pans over the arch with hundreds of gallons of maple sap.

The best treat for kids was the plain cake donut dunked in the big syrup pan, but that is way too sweet to have every day. You really crave something salty or savory when assaulted by all that sugar.

I wouldn't want to heat up the egg salad. On toast is the clearly superior choice.
