You keep mixing completely different ideas. Race is apparent to all people throughout history, although the specifics and and distinctions were limited to what they were aware of. There being mercenaries working with other armies doesn't suggest a lack of ethnic identity among ancient people.

Except it never stopped at physical trade, like I already said it included the trading of ideas and philosophies, not to mention all those groups ended up intermingling/intermarrying outside of commerce. Aside from maybe the Japanese in the Sakoku period, any time groups of people come together even for trade they influence each other, and even the Japanese weren't aht successful at staying isolated. You want things to be easily separated and categorized but humans are alive and life is messy, and that has been true throughout history.
