I switched to whole wheat pasta and there's definitely a huge difference in taste between brands. More expensive stuff is a lot better.

Not really, but ever since I've tried the fresh, refrigerated pasta I have no desire to eat the dry boxed stuff anymore. I guess it's good to keep on hand in the pantry for the shelf life though, but the fresh stuff is infinitely better.

Brands that use metal extruders are better than plastic, they have a starchier exterior and make better sauces for stuff like carbonara, aglio e olio, and cacio e pepe. Some of those same brands can also use different flours, and you may also see more unique shapes that you wouldn't find with cheap shit.
