I worked at a pizza place for years. It was a franchise of a small west coast chain, it was halfway between your classic chains and gourmet. Our Canadian bacon were rounds, probably 4 inches diameter. The unique thing about having big rounds and not shit tier diced ham is that they sweat in the oven and fry whatever is directly on top of them. My favorite was mushrooms. I’ll eat just about anything on a pizza (we had some crazy specialty pizzas so nothing surprises me anymore) but I always do Canadian bacon and mushroom. It’s never as good as my old store but it’s still up there.

I enjoy some combinations better without pepperoni. Sausage is more subtle in flavor profile and pairs stronger with most of the "grown-up" toppings like mushrooms and green peppers.

That said, Pepperoni is still simple and reliable for a one topping pizza and never fails to draw a crowd. The idea it should be outgrown is a matter of opinion, but it sure as hell ain't mine.

I just have a personal preference to the thicker crusts like LC's "deep dish" or Pizza Hut's pan pizzas. It's more expensive though, so I usually go LC's classic pepperoni or their deep dish. But pizza hut often has a deal: 1large+3med with plenty of toppings for $37 Canadian, which is like four dollars American, so it can be a good deal for decent tasting pizza and a lot of food. We ordered that last night and froze like 2/3rds of it: reheats nicer than a lot of others, probably due to all the excess butter/grease they spray on them.
