Used to come here with my mom, dad, and sister when I was little every Sunday. Makes me have this sinking feeling when I remember they're almost all closed, nowhere near me, and I'll never have another Sunday lunch where me, my parents, and my sister people watch and talk about stuff over meatload and unlimited choco chip cookies. Still have all you can eat Chinese places but it's not the same.

Years back, my parents used to go here just about every Sunday, (the one on 10 Mile and Ryan in Warren MI) as they had a roast beast special that day and my dad would get a plate piled high with meat and a teaspoon of mashed potatoes, while I loved the all-you-can-eat self-serve soft icecream machine.

This place was originally built decades back when I was a little kid as a Stag & Hound up-scale steak place but since then, the building has housed literally dozens of different restaurants and every single one of them has gone out of business after only a couple of years. For sure man drivers need protection. It's not nearly as bad as it used to be, but some spots (OKC Love's) are pretty bad. My dad had a loaded revolver that he locked up in his safe while we were driving but he'd take it out whenever we parked.

One time when I was with him (I was very young, like 4) a crackhead jumped on the hood of his truck bare-ass naked and screaming and pounding on the hood pulling out of a truckstop. I don't remember which one but tl;dr, he just started driving with the guy on the hood until he rolled off.

>Who is Arthur Treacher? They put his name there like I am supposed to know who he is?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Treacher

The chain is the namesake of Arthur Treacher (1894–1975), an English character actor typecast as "the perfect butler" for his performances as Jeeves, as a butler in several Shirley Temple films, and the role of Constable Jones in Walt Disney Productions' Mary Poppins.[7] At the time the chain was founded, Treacher was best known as the announcer and sidekick on the popular The Merv Griffin Show.[8] Whether Treacher actually had a financial involvement in the restaurants is unknown (in interviews he refused to say), but he "served as a spokesman for the restaurant chain in its early years, underscoring the British character of its food."[9] In a 1975 interview, New England franchise vice president M. John Elliott claimed the fish recipe to be the actor's own, brought over from the United Kingdom.[10]

Used to go here every week when my parents didn’t feel like cooking, they had some great tortilla soup, Laredo steak, Singapore salmon and a sundae bar in a fucking bathtub.
Man I still miss my local one over a decade later, just the comfiest hangout for a regular night or a birthday celebration with my whole family. It really hurt seeing them close down since we got to know the staff so well (one of our regular waiters was actually a professional magician and would perform new tricks for us every time we came in).
