Is it fucking worth it my dudes? That’s all I need to know. It’ll cost me £250 queens heads to get. I cook mostly every day, so is it a solid investment or pure fucking memery?

If you already have decent pots of the same size and not much storage space, meme. If you have plenty of storage space and want something that makes for easier family meal presentations, and look for sales (Staub had pretty frequent sales on their bright red ones over the past couple years) totally worth the price. If you're paying $400 and are poor, at least you'll have some nice dutch oven meals cooking outside your cardboard box?

It's a meme, but I absolutely love mine, it works amazing and I will never have to buy pots again (hopefully).

is this a cast iron thread?

I was watching youtube and people say to clean cast iron wash it when its hot in water so the food residue steams off.

my question is doesn't this make the iron brittle because of heat quenching?

what's the next best? lodge?

Cast iron retards won’t tell you that making anything acidic in your cast iron pot will ruin your seasoning. This would serve you better.

Yes it's 100% worth it. Don't want to spend meme money though? Get a Staub, works pretty much just as well. Poor? Get a lodge one.

>doesn't this make the iron brittle
No... but that doesn't mean you should throw it under cold water immediately off the stove either. Just let it cool or use some hot water and scrub normally, it's pretty hard to fuck up cast iron though.

Not hot enough to quench unless you've messed up your cooking big time, but too rapid a temperature change can cause warping.

>> No.15462591

the only real reason is if you consistently cook things in it over 450f. The enamel on cheaper brands like lodge will degrade very quickly at high temperatures, where LC stuff is designed to handle it.

I have a few Le Creuset pieces. Tramantina at Walmart is just as good.

why would you get this soulless shit instead of a mauviel pot/pan
you're not a housewife who does nothing all day but cook 5.7/10 meals, don't spend your money on overpriced bullshit

I think you could save a tenner at John Lewis. I used to have one (left it with my ex). I’ve got a smaller pot like that which was about £20 from Sainsburys and although it’s not as nice and won’t last as long, it works fine.

I bought an imitation version from Sainsburys. Was about £40 but got it for £20 (roughly) in the sale. Its absolutely fine. Does what it needs to do. Been using it for over a year and its not got any problems. £250 is a lot of money to spend on one item.

I've got a few le creuset pans and dont actually rate them that highly. I think there is better available.

You can get an enameled cast iron dutch oven for way cheaper that is still made well. No idea why people want to spend 4x the price on a name brand on these.

>> No.15466117

There's plenty of used ones on ebay m8, just make sure that you can see the enamel on the inside and it's not fucking toasted.

Just got a size 26 one myself from there, looks like it's an early 2010 model for £100.

this. but it should be noted that the lodge ones use Chinese enamel and will probably give you cancer, but ive read online that Staub and Casulet are doing that too now, so...

You will notice a difference in the long run. There's a reason they're expensive, they're much better made. That being said, you can still get good products for a lower cost but again, you'll notice the difference down the road. I have a pot just like your pic but different color, and one similar to this but from a cheaper brand. They're both good and I use both, but the more expensive one is better and is a pleasure to cook with. The cheaper one isn't bad but you can tell that the enamel coating is a lesser quality. Again, it's a good pot but you notice the difference. Most important thing though, take care of your stuff. It's like we always say in the military, take care of your gear, and your gear will take care of you.

If you want enameled you will want to buy Le Creuset or Staub, they have very good enamel coating. If you don't want to pay that much just get a raw cast iron pot. It makes no sense to pay a premium for shitty cheap enamel coating that just flakes off.
