Why do people buy microwave oven popcorn?

>> No.15459229

Convenience mostly, but it's also a failure to grasp the price differential of buying kernels directly and variable on how much you actually eat popcorn.

I'd say if you like popcorn and eat it a lot even if you're fairly lazy an air popper is a monotasker worth investing in. If you like it occasionally and are willing to make a relative mess, then you can pan cook it, and if you don't make popcorn a lot then the bag is really your best take.

Difficult to find plain popcorn kernels in shops in my country, bongistan. We have entire shelves filled with microwave popcorn and bags of ready-made popcorn, but I have only been able to find the kernels once and it was hidden in the world foods section. You can always go on online/amazon, but I don't trust them with food and it's not exactly something you can just pick up on a whim.

You should visit your local markets once in a while. You can stock up on all kinds of beans, grains and, of course, corn. I bought a bag of corn for 2.00 USD and I thought I used just enough for a large bowl but the saucepan ended up overflowing. I estimate I can get at least 20 more servings from that bag.

If you're shopping at supermarkets, you're paying too much.

you mean popcorn. because they like popcorn. you do know you can make the popcorn in a pan you tard. just empty everything out of the package in to pan and voila.

Because not everyone wants to break out an oil popper, order coconut oil and flavacol, make popcorn, and then have to clean the hardware afterward.

It’s quite simple, really.

but personally popping 1/3rd of a cup of popcorn kernels in a big pot with a tablespoon or two of ghee and then coating it all in sea salt and nutritional yeast is so much better than microwave, don't think I'll eve go back

You can do fun stuff with vegetables by adding only a few drops of water and sealing it with film before cooking it for around a minute and a half. Basically the lazy way to steam vegetables. It always seems to cook them more evenly than other methods.

People don't want to go out and find local kernels, buy seasoning and cook something delocious for themselves
All because they have to spend 2 minutes washing a pan
It is all really so simple!
I mean who wouldn't want to pay a heafty fee to do all that for them, with major quality sacrifices, and not to mention its gmo corn (100% bet) and its literally flooded with butter made from rat piss

You know you can blanch (yes, that's the word) your taters in a pot of hot water? Sure, nuking 'em only takes a few seconds (instead of a few minutes) but I live in a small apartment. I enjoy cooking and I have a standard-size stove, but I couldn't find room for a microwave oven. I'd rather keep the toaster oven instead.
