>making Italian meat and bone broth for risotto
>followed every single step of the traditional recipe, flawless execution
>mom gets into the kitchen and berates me for not doing boomer crap that inevitably translates into a soggy mess, like cooking it for 20 minutes instead of the recommended 4 hours
>in a few hours she'll lick the plate of the risotto but still remind everyone her own rice glue with no salt and butter would have tasted better anyway

It was weird though so many young women will brag how good what they make is at a potluck, and every time its mediocre or just gross and everyone awkwardly ignores giving them a compliment.

my aunt was fob Sicilian.
She made the most amazing meatballs I’ve ever tasted. It was like any sauce, no matter how good, simply detracted from the perfection which were her meatballs.

She always said she would someday give her recipe to the family.
In her twilight years she, for some unknown reason, became vegetarian. Never made those meatballs again, and refused to give the recipe.
Then the bitch died, and now only Satan and his demons get to enjoy those meatballs.
I would march into hell and retrieve that recipe myself if I could.

>turns off/up burners randomly
>adds stuff to dishes randomly

Boomers grew up in a time post-depression where processed foods were a new novelty. Those 90cent cans of diced fruit in pineapple syrup? That was a luxury 100 years ago. Boomers were raised by thinking garlic was exotic.

Not even kidding. They had controversies about foods to allow in schools back then where they decided not to allow "Exotic" ingredients like garlic because they thought it suppressed learning.

Boomers were not taught to cook, were raised by people who had had to deal with far less, and themselves are still in the mindset of thinking foods that are now commonplace are weird and foreign. Their spice racks are salt, pepper, and then maybe a store bought mix of meat rub and onion powder.

Most boomers can't spell risotto, much less know what it is. "Rice is rice, why would you keep cooking it, why is it the main course!"

>> No.15455765

The atomic family dissolved the ability of boomers to cook actually. The atomic family broke down in the 70s, because it was always a scam doomed to fail. The atomic family was an attempt to move away from community families (like much of the rest of the world has). It was an attempt to control workers by making them more manageable, easier to move around and house, easier to control and influence. It failed because it made family structures more fragile and prone to disaster. Without the support structures of extended family a weak marriage soured more easily and quickly.

The result was the necessity to normalize divorces and make them more accessible, which caused a massive boom of them among baby boomers in the 70s. This was when the nuclear family died, not the 90s.

>open bag of frito 'scoops' chips
>no pico de gallo
>had to use stash of taco bell hot sauce just to make it less plain and depressing

I remember being 9 and thinking my mom and grandma could cook. Grandma's amazing biscuits and gravy came from a tube and a jar respectively and were overcooked. The secret ingredient to my mom's homemade pizza was too much sugar in the store bought sauce. Her amazing potato soup was just salt pepper and butter in water.

It's the curse of millenials and younger to have both the recipes to literally any dish ever known at your fingertips, but also easy access to most ingredients required for any dish ever known, but to put up with cooking by people who were taught by the generation that survived the great depression and two world wars when food was scarce.

Haven’t you guys ever watched Malcolm in the middle? Literally his grandma is an evil bitch that treats everyone like shit and expects to be treated like a queen in return, since normal people obviously don’t respond well to being treated like shit they don’t really like her and so she claims everyone, in fact, treats her like shit.
I know it’s a TV show exaggeration and all, but to a degree there are people like that who exist. They treat the whole world as if it’s complete crap and expect other people to treat them like angels for being so far and above normal people, but when it’s not returned they have a meltdown. I believe the phrase for it recently is a “Karen”, but older, so more like a Gertrude.

Obviously I’m not saying that this anon is right and his grandma was definitely a bitch, who knows how big a faggot his dad is, and consequently since the faggot apple doesn’t fall far from the faggot tree, this anon may also be a complete faggot. But, there’s definitely a possibility his nonna was a thundercunt with absolutely no humanity left in her empty shell after years of being beaten by poppa.

Even without a "village" look at how families from other cultures that didn't erase this concept go about it. Look at how Mexican families act. You have all these cousins and extended families who stay together, keep in touch, act as a village type community for all intents and purposes.

American culture had that and especially relied on it when expanding westward. Then got rid of it for the experiment of the nuclear family.

America is slowly crawling back into that kind of culture though due to economic problems. The nuclear family died in the 70s with the explosion of divorces, but millennials who have been unable to move out and become independent as was before "expected" of them has forced families to stick together more. Multiple families might afford a house together, parents who already own a house might have their kids and grandkids under a roof with them.

Similarly, while a lot of cooking traditions failed to make it to or passed boomers, millenials with access to virtually any ingredient known at a relatively affordable cost, and with access to literally any recipe ever written down with tutorial videos available, can reinvent traditions in cooking.

I literally just watched a video about how to make a 4000 year old Babylonian dish and all the ingredients that were translated from a clay tablet are available within 10 minutes of me. I could use that tutorial and make an ancient 4000 year old lamb and red beet dish. My grandparents make "frito pie" and think it's amazing.

I've said it before, a lot of what many people believe makes up modern American culture are things invented for or by Boomers that won't outlive them despite their efforts to dominate culture. And once they're all gone people will be surprised by how different things are.

You mean Mexicans and niggers. Mexicans and niggers are doing this in suburban cities, mostly in places where urban housing prices are skyrocketing (LA is a huge example) and turning the cities into complete shitholes while they’re at it. Not only this, but in states like California where “non-violent criminal offenses” typically land you no jail time, there’s a huge influx of criminals to poor cities where renters don’t typically do background checks. The influx of criminals leads to an influx of homeless drug users, and a huge degradation in the quality of the streets as trash piles up, shit gets shat, and the homeless vomits and pisses across the city.

No self respecting white person is doing this. It’s literally just niggers and beaners filling the house to the brim. I live near a bunch of them, because I had the unfortunate luck of having retard parents who lived in California and also were unwilling to help me start my life in any meaningful way. Their children are screaming constantly and I’m never sure if I’m listening to autistic meltdowns or literal child rape anymore.

TBF not all Mexicans/African-Americans are like this. There’s plenty of decent, self respecting people living in nicer neighborhoods as well, and I have no problem with any of them. But if you go to the ghetto, which is currently encroaching on all of the nice places in California (and has overtaken a majority of Southern California), you will absolutely see and hear some shit that is fucked. Don’t even get me started on how bad they all drive as well (HURR let’s merge into the right lane and drive 20 MPH for 2 miles before my exit).

Just the other day, I went down the street to a local burrito shop. On the way, I saw an abandoned building. There’s at least 4 niggers sleeping on the ground, several standing up, and a few in the door way. There was trash, alcohol, and probably drug paraphernalia of all kinds around them. Nobody did anything about it, besides take a few pictures on the way to their destination. That’s the reality of predominantly-Mexican cities. By the time I passed it again, they were all scattered.

Exactly what buzzwords did I use? Holy Jesus you’re retarded. I was describing my own personal experience, and considering I’ve been living in California a long time and you haven’t, I’m pretty fucking certain I know a lot more about what I’m talking about than you do. Just because you’ve read a bunch of fucking articles or social media posts or heard about a topic in uni classes doesn’t mean you have a single fucking clue about what is actually happening or how it is actually happening. There’s this thing we humans have known about for a long time called lying, it happens a lot more often than one would like to believe!

All I’m trying to inform you of is that “families rebonding” and “the dissolution of the atomic family” is actually something closer to “everyone in certain regions is poor as fuck and have to group together to buy exorbitantly expensive houses just to survive, and being in this type of overcrowded, uncomfortable environment tends to lead to increased crime, violence, interpersonal conflict, overabundance of trash, and sanitation problems.” I then added the fact that California actively issues low prison time (or none at all) for non-violent offenses, so people who burgle, rob, use drugs, sell drugs, shoplift, etc etc tend to move to these poorer neighborhoods because the rent tends to be lower and the renters don’t tend to issue background checks as strictly. This is quite the recipe for disaster on local scales. If your brain can’t wrap around that idea and understand why it’s a bad thing, then you’re actually fucking mentally handicapped and I’m very sorry for you.

It's a significant amount at least, over $1M in a decent economy so she could retire if she felt like it. She has told me several times though, she doesn't want to retire, she fears losing her purpose in life and feels that if she loses that purpose, she'll wither and pass just like her sister who retired then soon passed. She's one of those, workaholic boomer types, both my parents were. They never really were around, I'd see them before school and that's it, they'd work until 2-3am, sometimes 4am everyday but they worked hard to make sure their kids were fed, so I'm grateful regardless of how rough my neglected upbringing was.

sure, why not? Here's a simple sauce base we use for a lot of dishes. You can use it as tempura sauce, for cold soba, add it to donburi for extra umami, water it down and use it as a soup base for udon, anything and everything that needs umami.
First get dried kelp and bonito flakes in cold water, bring to a boil, not long, just enough to get the kelp soft and umami in the water then strain. This is dashi base, if you can't find bonito flakes, you can use hondashi.
4 parts dashi
1 part mirin
1 part soy sauce
It'll be a little sharp at first but let it breath at room temperature overnight and it'll smooth out, then you can keep it in the fridge and it'll hold for a couple days.

Feeling like teriyaki?
4 parts mirin
2 parts sake
Simmer that first
Then add
2 parts soy sauce
1 part sugar
simmer a little more until the sugar is dissolved, then add corn starch to thicken the sauce.

Bam, two of my family's simple sauce bases that we build almost all of our recipes on top of. Really, a lot of the simple Japanese sauce bases are permutations of dashi, sake, mirin, soy sauce, and sugar
