How the FUCK do they have any success? Worst sandwhiches I've ever had. In any town with a subway there's an italian restauraunt, deli, etc. that will give you a real sub that you'll remember for the same price. There's also a grocery store that will sell you better ingredients and a gas station that will have the same quality subs but cheaper. Why does anybody eat this garbage?

It's impossible to make bread/meat/cheese together taste bad stop being contrarian. Rather they are shit because it's over priced to fuck when you could buy the same ingredients at the store (higher quality ones) for lower prices.

Those two statements do not contradict each other. McDonalds is low quality sloppa but it still objectively tastes good. Subway with their billions of dollars isn't going to put out a product that tastes bad, but obviously you can do better.

When I was in hs my friend worked at a subway that had almost no business. Me and my 3-4 friends would always just chill there because he made us sandwiches for free and we could smoke as much weed as we wanted out back since we had parents who wouldn’t let us smoke at home. The manager/owner was almost never there and didn’t give a fuck if he smoked back there or hung out in the back of the restaurant, one time we accidentally tripped hard on acid when it was my buddy who worked there’s last day and him and his co-worker had to make sandwiches tripping balls while I chilled in the back, good times

We used to set up his GameCube in the lobby and play smash. after we graduated college we found out it closed permanently, not surprising since it hemorrhaged money for years, the only reason the owner didn’t sell it sooner was because he leveraged his house on it and if he closed it he’d lose his house.

The quality of their ingredients went downhill in recent years and prices also started going up, but for like 15 years they were basically just something new and exciting and it develops into comfort food.

It's the same with like Panda Express, there's plenty of local asian restaurants where you can get better quality bigger portions for a cheaper prices but that corporate brand is comforting to people.

Also that because people started to wake up to the fact that fast food isn't all that great for you they were selling themselves as a healthy alternative even if now their bread is mostly recycled yoga mats and corn syrup.

The real reason is because their franchise is very cheap(compared to McDonalds and all the others), requires minimal equipment, operational expenses is very low and Subway has a good logistic network.

Sandwiches are good. Definitely not the worst.
The argument that you could "make it at home but cheaper" is a moot point because you can make any food at home but cheaper. Also, a lot of the ingredients will spoil at your house unless you plan to eat sandwiches every day or have a big family or something, and those wasted ingredients will make it more expensive. Point is, you're paying not to have to make it yourself.
