What's the deal with using the word "salad" to mean "with mayonaise"?
Potato salad, macaroni salad, tuna salad, I'm pretty sure I saw a thread the other day about apple salad.
Who corrupted the word salad in this way and why are people going along with it?
And this is all besides the fact that eating a jar of mayo plus pasta (or potato or whatever) is really disgusting.

It's not a regional thing, but rather the general definition of a salad. The idea of a green salad being "the definition of salad" is more of a limited scope thing. There's many types of salad found all around the world that don't fit the typical green salad description, but are still considered salads.

Sour cream (little less than the Mayo)
Diced manzanilla olives
Cut up hard boiled eggs
Salt and pepper

Tastes best after being refrigerated overnight, though fresh made is good too.

For me, it's a pasta salad. Boil up your pasta. let it cool to room temp. Toss it in some italian salad dressing with some rinsed canned kidney beans, grated parm, and banana peppers.
