It's lockdown so to keep ourselves busy a Buddy and I are having a brew-off with a novelty beer, the White Stout. We'll share them with friends and see who has brewed the best gimmicky beer.

Rules:
>Must use the same yeast and hops (Fermoale AY4 and CZT T90)
>Must be pale in colour
>Must contain typical stout flavours; chocolate, coffee, caramel etc
>Must be >7% ABV

It's about the challenge. Stout flavours usually come from roasted barley, chocolate and crystal malts so they're all very dark. Extracting those flavours without automatically using a dark malt is trickier.

It's also a bit of a mindfuck because it looks like you're about to drink a lager but then it's chocolatey? Pic up top looks more like a milkshake but they used a process called reverse-roasting so it's a bit different to a typical white stout.

Breakfast Stouts aren't meant to be drunk in the morning. The "breakfast" refers to the use of flaked oats to give the beer more body and that party flavour most people associate with breakfast.
