I can't even deal with this show. I don't know how they find such shitty "chefs"
>chef tries pouring noodles straight from strainer into fryer
>chef lights butter on fire and pours it in the trash can
>chef fights a fish and half butchers it then fries before throwing it in a pot of boiling water to make stock in under 30 minutes
>"soul food" chef can't prepare fish, obvious she only sells frozen catfish out of her restaurant
>bbq chefs serve meat that is uncooked and raw in the middle
>peaches as basket ingredient, every chef grills them
>chef tries roasting meatballs, low on time so uses the microwave instead of the deep fryer
>basket ingredient is a burger, chef only uses the tomato off of it
>caul fat as a basket ingredient, no chef tries broiling sausage

how does the show even work anyways? it's a little obvious to me that the competition is mostly for show. I think they are given extra time to think about the dishes. how are they so good at naming their dishes but so bad at cooking?

They're given 0 time to prep. Iron Chef they have a day, but on Chopped they don't even know if they're on a themed episode until the host mentions it.

Lots of anonymous chefs (and ones who broke their NDA) have confirmed they don't know the basket until they open it and the only "planning time" they may get is if the director reshoots them opening it for coverage, which is not guaranteed.

I like to stop and whine about it and I'm glad my roommate doesn't get angry at me about it. The texas bbq episode during the intro I said 'let me guess, all of the chefs are going to show their food off on a piece of paper on a quarter sheet pan' and then they did id
>>15345393
>>15345432
I know at the very least they are given time to do a walkthrough of the kitchen and pantry to familiarize themselves with the ingredients available. they might have time between cooking and having to talk in front of the panel to spend time to come up with a name for whatever their creation was so there's that I guess. one thing I find a bit stupid about the show is they don't have enough fryers so there are traffic jams at the fryer often and I think that's not only unsafe but it doesn't really make for the most sporting competition when you have to do food prep in certain orders

what episode of redlettermedia did mike bring up chopped and give his opinions on it with regards to them editing it to make things seem short on time. the chefs standing in front of the panel are there for like 15 minutes and have to watch the judges eat 4 meals and critique them. the expressions anyone makes during the conversation are all edited to give reactions. I love how they have different music playing during the judges talking about the food. jay dies at the end of the video and mike gets distracted by the tv. "omg get that food plated in time dammit!" I think it's funny how nearly every episode they do the quick cuts of everyone plating food as the clock counts down from 5 as if it's all happening real time and it always has to end on exactly 0

The worst is when they open the cloche and EVERY TIME they show the person who doesn't get chopped's shocked reaction but omg its actually the other chef! They do it EVERY FUCKING TIME its so annoying.

On one, it was some lesbo muslim woman and the judges didn't know (and she didn't disclose it in her intro). She ended up winning.

The other time it was some v*gan and they made every basket ingredient vegan (to the chagrin of the other chefs who weren't) but they had honey in the dessert basket cause some vegans still have honey, but this guy didn't and he was literally bawling his eyes out at the thought of using it, but didn't and still won. Another thing that i hate is when they complain that a basket ingredient Flavor was not detectable in a final dish, then other times they complain that a basket ingredient was too prominent and a non basket ingredient should have been more forward. This happened in the chopped championship with the jamaican guy. The dessert round basket ingredient was caramelized onions. The judges said that the ice cream (espresso-onion) was good but the onion should have been better hidden and that the espresso should have been more prominent. Most food competition shows are for the normies. Chopped, especially, is for people that never cook, because who the fuck is gonna recreate those recipes in their own kitchen?

Literally who cares about a "lineage"? Your name will be forgotten within 3 generations after your death (do you know your great-great-grandfather's name?) and you'll be dead so you won't even have the ability to appreciate your name being remembered for what time it is. Having kids and "continuing your lineage" won't keep you from dying or being forgotten. Thinking otherwise is the oldest cope of all time.
Have kids if you want to have kids, if you want to be a parent, if you want a family in your life presently. If you have kids solely for muh lineage then you'll be a shit parent anyway, probably the type of person who tries to turn his kids into little clones of himself with all the same interests who do all the things you did (or wish you did) instead of letting them be their own people.

How in good conscience can you sit as a judge in a food competition and not have a refined palate that is accepting of all flavors/foods? Even if it's just for the sake of fairness and non-partiality for the competitors.

Chopped is the worst food show I've seen. Most cooking shows are just an elaborate circle jerk of the chef celebs so they can suck each other off for more fame and profit, but Chopped doesn't even hide it. It's dog shit TV. I remember an episode where one of the judges complained that the dessert tasted too good and held that against the meal. Everyone on that show should die.

That's the bullshit that makes it so fun to watch, though. It's fun to watch Chopped with friends and mutually rage at the guests and judges.
