Rate my dinner. I'm still very new to cooking, but I tried brining Pork Chops for 3 hours then cooked them with Parmesan Shake n Bake. Made some Havarti Cheddar Mac n Cheese for a side. Not the fanciest meal, I know, but again, I'm new to this whole cooking thing.

it looks okay, but what is wrong with that picture? are you eating in complete darkness and took a pic with your camera flash, or is your camera just complete shit?

Looks fine. Pork isn't overdone but the mac & cheese sauce looks a little thin.

Dim lighting with a flash. No flash and the picture comes out really murky.

looks good but plain. could use a side of veggies or a salad at least. also, if youre interested in improving id avoid buying stuff like boxed mac and instead learn to make your own.

It's super easy to make better homemade mac & cheese.

You brined your chops, I'm proud of you. But between the SnB and the boxed macaroni you're eating a lot of salt. Let's see some veg on that plate next time. You're off to a decent start though.

Why did porkchops become so popular? Such a shitty piece of meat.

>> No.15292449

drop the shake and bake and pick up some panko. shake is nasty garbage

they're about 1/3 the price of beef, and butchers are starting to treat them more like steaks, defining them into separate cuts, as opposed to calling them all "chops"

get yourself an instant read thermometer, pork doesn't need to be cooked to well done, pull it off at about 120*F and let it rest for 5 minutes
get a thicker cut, cook it like a steak, instead of like some cheap chicken; liberally season it with salt (not seasoning salt, go buy some kosher salt) and dried herbs (like rosemary and thyme), and let it sit at room temp for 30 minutes before cooking
make a demi-glace with pork or turkey stock, add in a cider reduction, and use it as sauce for the pork
sauté up some thinly siced apples and onions to top it
blanch and shock (in ice water) your green vegetables, then quickly sauté them in oil and a small amount of butter with some garlic and shallots
roast some baby or red potatoes in garlic, kosher salt, rosemary, and oil
you likely have all the free time in the world, now is the time to step up your cooking game

I'm pretty fond of the chicken shake n' bake myself. I just like the way it tastes. But if you do your own breading you'll want to mix a little fat in with the bread crumbs so the coating bakes up crispy, which is how shake n' bake does it.

Pork looks good and Mac and cheese looks watery
