15288741 No.15288741 [Reply] [Original]

Got a shaker and a bunch of related bartender tools for Christmas. I've never really made mixed drinks aside from a screwdriver. What are some good cocktails to try? Also I'm trying to find a cocktail that a girl that hates the taste of alcohol would enjoy.

Not every cocktail is shaker worthy.

I'd start with mojitos for the alcohol hater. It goes down like sweet minty sugar. It can be muddled with your muddling stick, and also shaken. but no need to strain it.

Old Fashioneds and Whiskey Sours are classics. Tequila Sunrise if you want to learn a fancier, more presentation-heavy drink to impress women. Zombies for tiki night theme parties.

Any sour is excellent practice and works well as a jumping off point for loads of other drinks. I would suggest getting good at making syrups, too.

I'm going off just Liquid Intelligence here, but Dave Arnold does have a preference for stirring in half of a boston tin. It's perfectly fine.

>>15288985
It's tools of the trade. You can't muddle without a muddler; while you can stir with any spoon, it's easier to stir with a barspoon because of the long handle; you can't shake without a shaker, and straining is way harder.

>Dave Arnold does have a preference for stirring in half of a boston tin
It's fine to have preferences but its less practical and in a commercial setting, it's less theatrical which might be wanky but it matters

I was tasked with making several 'beetus cocktails over Christmas. The recipe is as follows
2 parts rum
1 part blue curacao
1 part rum chata
1 part pineapple juice
Blended

I couldn't taste the alcohol at all, it just tasted like sugar.

Start with sours. It's always 2 parts spirit, 1 part lemon or lime juice and 1 part simple syrup shaken over ice.
The citrus juice and sugar cut off the alcoholic taste while giving the drinks some freshness.
Start with Daiquiris. Girls often like them. You can go fancy and mix Hemingway Daiquiris, but those are more complicated and you need more ingredients.

Have you tried to fucking make their cocktails following their exact recipes?

I started working through the entire list of IBA cocktails and too many of their ratios are undrinkable. I'll still continue my IBA journey but they are only a starting point. My disappointment is immeasurable with the IBA. What a fucking joke. I'm fucking mad and I wish there as an IBA list alternative I could work through.
