Is this stuff actually good? I don't go into stores these days - would it be worth ordering one for $10 or whatever from Amazon?

I was thinking about putting it on sandwiches, or adding it to soup or stir fry.

oo look tasty, but what uncle roger say

Don't buy chink products. Buy the thai version instead

The perfect addition to your hot sauce collection, you deserve it for being so tolerant

It's fantastic as a dipping sauce for steamed meat buns and pot stickers.

$10 is a lot of money for that.

It's just tastes like chili... Get a good one with spices, fragrance flavour.

>> No.15235633

It isn't as spicy as you would think. Really it more of an umami sauce. I think it is delicious.

You have to get the spicy chili crisp, there are a few others that look the same and are the same brand but not good

>> No.15236030

We use it all the time in dumpling or noodle sauce. Dark vinegar + chili sauce + soy sauce is the way to go.

I love a bit of chili oil on my potstickers. For me, a little goes a long way but it tastes so good.

10 bucks is a bit much for that, you can make your own if that's your only option. Chili oil is good though,

it's that good, yes, but that price is ridiculous, you can find it for €2 or €3 at most at the local ethnic/chink store

I got the black bean version by accident, and I have no idea how I'm going to use it.

Definitely has a good amount of sediment, but waaaay overpriced. Amazon rips you off for these brands, go to a local Asian market and you’ll get it for a quarter of that.

Strain the black beans from the oil and they’re amazing in mapo tofu - check out the America’s Test Kitchen recipe and use the chili oil black beans in place of the ones they call for for extra heat.

OP, I have ordered sets of three bottles it 2x from Amazon. When I first discovered it, I even sent a few bottles to family via Amazon!

Go ahead and buy from whatever guy sells those 3 bottles at once. It gives you the best price per jar, and you'll use them. This may come from amazon's warehouse or from China, so look for Prime or it might takes WEEKS to get to you, because obviously supplies affected from shipping w/ covid, so whatever the price is, fine, okay, it's reasonable because the seller sucks up the $7shipping cut that Amazon takes. It should last you a while.

There is a knockoff available at Trader Joes, just rolled out, but my closest TJs is prolly over an hour away so I can't speak for it being worth it personally. Dunno yet. There are also about 4 blogs online with some recreations recipes too, but there since there's an umami secret ingredient aspect to this thing? Maybe you should get the real thing first to know if you even like it.

It looks like ordinary sambal chili paste in the jar, but the flakes of chili aren't soft and pureed like sambal, but more oil-suspended dried&fried bits of chili seeds and flakes, and some of the bits are also crunchy soybeans, crunchy onion, crunchy garlic, all in medium spicy chili oil. So it is good in soups, stir fries, pot sticker dipping sauces, of course, and even in grilled cheese, but it really shines as a last minute spoon over spicy kick where it still maintain the crunch! I would serve it by the spoonful right on the side of the plate for rice dishes and sneak a bit with the tines of my fork into every bite. Drizzle it onto a dressed burger, on a hot dog, on top of fried chicken, on pizza, on your mexican food, on mac n cheese...it really can go everywhere.
