I would argue that when the core feature of the burger is the patty, like with A&W's seasoned patties, two patties is acceptable. Those trendy squashed patties aren't usually bad when doubled up, unless they've been squeezed of their juices and dried.

The power move is always to have a second burger instead of fries. Unless you're in it for the potassium, fries are just empty salty carbs. The burger is the better choice, both for satisfaction and nutrition.
