Italy, and no. Not that you can't, it's just not mandatory nor customary. The workers' compensation relies solely on the employer. If a worker needs tips to make ends meet then it's not up to the customer to solve the issue, but on the workers themselves to unionize and ask for better terms. Institutional tipping is just a way for the owners to offload responsabilities and increase profits on the workers' back. No wonder it's common in the USA.

In Poland it isn’t mandatory nor expected but when I have a person servicing me with high standards I sometimes tip. Quality service with people being trained to be knowledgeable about the menu, not constantly asking if I’m enjoying my meal etc. Thankfully there are still people from the old guard of gastronomy schools that know their shit instead of college students and kids

Odd one in our industry is the unseen people who clean the private shower rooms between customers. Not obligatory, but appreciated. Sometimes the cashier will comp you a free shower and ask you to leave the usual price as a tip for the shower cleaner. A few bucks, more if you leave a mess or they did a better than usual job with cleaning.

I went to a boba tea place and when you pay with card it tries to force you to auto tip, with prices ranging from $4-$10 for a $4 tea. I just stood there silently baffled until the cashier told me how to close the tipping screen. When I initially came in I said I was stepping out of line to look at the menu and the dumb bitch kept asking which flavor I wanted. I will never go back.
