What do you guys use for taco spice? Do you make your own? I’ve been using pic related the past few times (the spicy one) and it seems decent, however I realize this is probably the plebeian choice. Any recommendations?

I make my own, simple and makes a difference.
>brown ground beef (don't crowd pan, work in batches to get browning). Remove from pan leaving fat.
>sweat 1 cup chopped onions and fresh jalapeno or serrano
>add minced garlic and bay leaf for 1 minute
>add 1 cup tomato sauce or .5 cup tomato paste
>add some chipotle, ancho chili powder and ground cumin (@ 1 tsp +/- depending on your itch)
>add meat back and cover with a rich beef stock or chicken stock in a pinch.
>simmer covered for @1 hour until reduced.
>salt to taste

BTFO of that seasoning packet chemical concentrate.

First time taco meat make. Basically I just cooked the beef, added chili powder, cumin, salt, pepper, and some dollops of salsa as it cooked.

It was okay, as it cooked I tasted it and it tasted a little bland so last minute addition I squirted two Taco Bell sauce packets into it, it came out not quite as tasty as I'd like, but was edible and did have a bit of seasoned flavor. I felt I was being generous with the seasoning, but it still wasn't enough, holy shit there must be SO MUCH salt in most taco meat.

So lately my staple weeknight dish has become....
can of diced tomato
can of black beans
diced red onion
diced green or red capsicum
sliced spring onion
sliced bridseye chilli or habanero and jalapeno
smoked paprika
cumin
salt
pepper

started off with ground beef for the protein but have moved onto to shredded chicken breast

anyway. the other day i thought of heating up some hard shells and making tacos with the last serving of my weekly batch.

fuck me. im never buying that old el paso shit again. i actually bought some of their hot taco sauce when i bought the shells but ended up using some chilli sauce i got from a farmers market a while ago.

it was so god damn good. i literally forgot to open the shredded cheese but decided it wasnt needed after my first.

anyway. how bad would say 4 corn tacos be compared to a serving of white rice in terms of weight loss?

I dont as well...which is why cumin should NOT be used in tacos...UNLESS you are keeping it exclusively to only paprika and cumin w/salt and pepper, ONLY as taco seasoning...that is the one and only exception.
If one is adding chili powder (which many have cumin already in chili powder), along with MORE cumin with garlic, onion, cayenne, etc...it is a display of one, not knowing what theyre doing

Taco Bell packets? Are you fucking retarded? It tasted bland because you seasoned it like shit. It’s beef, which means always: salt, pepper, garlic powder. For taco seasoning also add: beef base, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, cayenne if you’re a man red chili flakes if you’re a tranny, finely diced onion, chopped green pepper(I prefer large pieces that don’t get soggy as fuck), pinch of smoked paprika, and a pinch of something sweet to balance it. I like the flavor molasses or brown sugar gives it but honey or white sugar works fine too.

Use 1/3 of this mix to season the meat for at least half an hour before you cook it. Throw it in high heat pan to seer it off then turn the heat down to finish it and throw the other 2/3 of the seasoning it, mix and cook at medium-high until finished. Take it off the heat and serve to tacos straight from the pan, don’t drain the grease or it’ll be dry as fuck in no time flat. Will be fucking good, not difficult at all.
