I don't know how available it is outside of the Netherlands but here it's a lot of fish for little money and very delicious and healthy. I'm looking for different ways to eat it though. I've just been eating it with buttered bread and sometimes applesauce because that's how we ate it growing up.

>Can you eat guppies?

Technically a guppy is edible. However, they are very small fish which does mean that you won’t gut them or clean their insides before eating them.

>This leads to two potential problems.

>Potential disease

Cooking should kill any diseases inside fish but if you fail to cook your guppy properly you will increase your likelihood of becoming ill through the bacteria inside the guppy.

>Amount Needed

Guppies are small, you’ll need a lot of them to give you a decent plate of food. While they multiply quickly, it is unlikely they will be a viable food source to feed you or your family.

>In general, guppies are not eaten, but it is possible if you want to.

yes i planned on putting them in a bare tank with clean water for a day without food, i'd expect that to "rinse" them out

Seems like I post this every thread but you should start with lower quality brands and then move to better quality. This way you will know and appreciate what makes a higher quality sardine. Begin with sardines in olive oil, & only buy one tin of each to start. Also start by eating them with something like bread, crackers and tomatoes / bell peppers or eggs. Start with beach cliff and then season brand. After that get some King Oscars and Riga Sprats. If you feel like expanding after that then go to world market or sprouts (if you have one in your area) and buy some Bela's or Matiz. Some world market's sell Trata's and they're great too. If you want to continue to expand then you could go on amazon and buy some Santo Amaro's or Nuri's.

How was it? I’m worried of frying a can of sardines lest my house smell of fish. I usually just enjoy my sardines straight from the can, one mustn’t dilute the fine taste of smoked sardines with a cracker or anything else.

However, with mackerel, I’ll use a can and a tablespoon or two of mayonnaise and make a most delicious mackerel salad sandwich like as one would make a tuna fish salad sandwich.

The sardines must never suffer the indignity of being mixed with a lesser food. It’s a sign of poor taste.
