Let us marvel at the food system in the United States. In the middle of a pandemic where we are all locked in our homes, the government gives non productive Americans enough credits to buy a steak everyday in addition to 1 pound of Barilla and a can of Hunts sauce. Thats 3000 calories for $6.22 . For every man woman and child. How is thus even possible? Thank you US government and thank you farmers and meat cutters for this miracle. There has never been a food system like this and never will be again.

How do you spend your daily $6.28 in food credits?

Buy 1/4 cow until I get enough freezer space for a whole cow.
Then I raise, slaughter, and butcher my own cows.

Same here in Manitoba. Butcher is typically much cheaper and higher quality than whatever closest Sobey's, Safeway etc.

yeah here in SW ontario the local free-range no-human-contact-organic butcher is cheaper 9/10 times than going to loblaws

I swear, it's one idiot on here perpetrating the "Canadian food is ungodly expensive" meme while posting food prices from fly in reserves.

>$5.88 a pound

My Jewel Osco ad has 88 cent per pound pork shoulders this week. Coat one in brown sugar, add some apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce, and throw it in a slow cooker with an onion and you got delicious food for days.

Yeah let me just run to the store and take pictures of food prices for you, King Retard. Go check out an online flyer if you're genuinely curious. I'm not talking about Costco chickens here.

I don't know what kind of strange narrative you're trying to push, Anon, but I can assure you all of the major grocery chains (not even talking about the produce and meat available at the independent stores in my major Canadian city) post prices online. I'm sorry that you live in Pukatawagan, but it's not like that in the rest of the country.

The price of beef in my area has fallen two whole dollars. The initial shortage made me think the price would skyrocket, or that there would be no beef at all. Thank god the opposite happened.

All the neat Canada gets comes from Canadian farms and is almost always processed and shipped from massive plants in Alberta. It is then given a quality A,AA or AAA and then bought by companies and or stores. Your local butcher can get fresh local meat but it has to be approved by big daddy government and given a quality rating before being sold. This makes our meat more expensive but also it’s checked for quality and thrown out if it does not make our standards of at least minimum grade
