Was slicing cheese and my wife, who doesnt cook, says use the cheese slicer. It worked pretty good. You guys have any goofy gadgets like this?

no, i don't really like cheese but honestly i could use a dedicated wife slicer

I have that exact one. I hardly ever use it anymore. I don't buy cheese in large volumes to warrant using it over a regular cheese knife.

It's good for slicing cheese at variable thickness for a variety of pastas. What are you on about?

>> No.15188640

>>15188333
It's not goofy. It's just mostly shelf junk unless you eat a lot of cheese. Other ones are a bench scraper being easier/faster/safer than a knife if you chop up a lot of shit at once. A good can opener that forces you to use it the correct way (the circular blades should be parallel and cutting into the side wall rather than perpendicular and cutting into the lid), mine has a little pincer on it to grab the lid and makes it mess free. It also has extra shit added so it's less useless like 3 kinds of bottle openers.

>cutting into the side wall rather than perpendicular and cutting into the lid
I don't like this because when I try to lift the lids, there is always sticky icky gluey wooey strands between the lid and the can. It grosses me out.

I don't do much canned food anymore, mostly just tomatoes, and sometimes beenz. I never really run into the issue. Might be based on the sharpness/quality of the opener? I get what you're talking about but I barely every see it.

I have that exact cheese slicer. I only used it once.

work at a sandwich shop, we ran out of cheddar cheese so my boss went to the Gordon's Food Service down the street to grab more, but they were out of presliced so she had me use pic rel to slice it. slices came out completely mangled, i couldnt get them any thinner than 1/4 inch without them breaking into tiny pieces and the slicer was slimed up after. boss doesnt want us washing it in the actual dish pit anymore cause out last one got fucked up back there so had to wipe all the cheese off with a rag.
for those who aren't familiar, it's something like a deli slicer but hand-cranked. you push on a plunger with the left hand that pushes the food into the blades, and you spin them with the white handle with your right hand

Maybe partially freeze or slice it much slower. OP here, I sliced extra sharp cheddar with that contraptoon amd it sliced clean

I'm genuinely curious how that thing works.
I have 3 of pic related because I am a based Norwegian and was tired of the one I had always being in the dishwasher when I needed it, so I bought two more. You won't find a household without at least one in Norway. Never seen the one you posted though

i tried using this on brie cheese but it completely ruined it!!! did i do something wrong??!

>> No.15191407

>>15191353
You cant really see it in the pic, but at the top is a fine wire that does the actual cutting. The wheels on the side screw out to adjust where you put the middle part to set how thick it slices.

>> No.15191433

>>15191407
That honestly seem like too elaborate of a contraption to be honest. With the slicer in >>15191353 you can adjust the thickness by slightly bending the front part to adjust the hole the cheese goes through. Anyway that is something you almost never do as one thickness is enough

>> No.15191465

>>15191433
I think the advantage might be that it is wider and you can make identical slices.
