Tomato sauce is great IF it's the season and homemade. What separates the boys from the men is always moderation and high quality products. Pasta like spaghetti shouldn't be drowned in sauce. If there's soup after you done eating, you made it wrong.
Pic related is a sin.

Personally, I just find pasta is essentially a flavor vehicle, and I find tomatoes always work best as a complimentary flavor for some other flavor, a contrasting cheese, sausage or cutlet of meat, this is why a dish of simply pasta and tomato sauce is always best when the real star is meatballs or italian sausage or veal or chicken etc. If you're just gonna have a plate of pasta, almost any other kind of sauce is better.

Hah, reading this, anon, I know EXACTLY that you've never tried good tomato sauce. Like, right at the end of tomato season. The stuff you buy is something totally different. In late summer, I eat my spaghetti with cold homemade tomato sauce, it's THAT good. But to each its own.

That's not a tomato sauce, it's pasta with tomatoes

Okay, what sort of pasta am I supposed to make without tomato sauce.

>inb4 carbonara
>inb4 fettuccine alfredo
I'd rather just add olive oil and eat it without any seasoning besides salt. But that's hardly a proper meal.

Cacio e pepe, which is creamy cheese and pepper; gricia, which is bacon/guanciale, pasta, pepper and nothing else; Genovese, which is a sauce derived from slow-cooking beef in onions (actual onions, not a form of censorship here); ragù bianco, which is crema, minced meat, and soffritto; quattro formaggi, which is basically a much fancier version of Mac&Cheese; Gorgonzola pasta; pasta with nuts and radicchio; pasta and beans; pasta and chickpeas; pasta and lentils; pasta al pesto; pasta with mussels; searock pasta, namely with mussels, shrimps, squids, parsely and garlic...

Lots of options

Pasta and pesto is the GOAT type of pasta.
