No one will answer me and as a Brit am so confused.. Why does everyone hate on Cincinatti chili? Can someone who has had actual Texas or at least U.S. border-state chili as well as Skyline chili comment?

Other than cloves, lots of recipes I have seen online for Texas chili or regular chili use cinnamon and many include a dash of dark chocolate (which comes from the Mexican Mole tradition I believe). So it can't taste that different to regular U.S. chili which also always has cold orange cheddar on top?..

Yes it really does taste that much different from regular chili. I can't overstate how much you can taste the cinnamon and the cloves. They are not used in such an amount that it accentuates the overall flavor of the chili but they are predominant. It's really fucking weird

First, it's Cincinnati. It's ok, everyone misspells it.

They hate it because it's not chili. It's a meat sauce. It might be the spices, and you're right, other chilis have them too, but they are so heavy in Cincinnati style.. The scent of cinnamon and nutmeg are pervasive near most Skylines.

Nobody would ever sit down and eat a bowl of Skyline chili. That's the difference between it and "Texas style". You eat it on spaghetti or hot dogs or in a burrito, but never a bowl.

So that's why they hate. It's not really chili.
