just got this. was one of the last 3 bottles in the store. first pour is pretty fucking nice. the peat is there for sure, but its not overpowering and it makes me feel like i could blend 3 parts Glendronach 12 to 1 part Ardbeg 10(if that even) and get pretty damn close the same glass. nutmeg, leather, clove and choclate with a nice long finish. cant remember if its got any sherry influence, but I get that impression. its going to go down well this winter at any rate.

Czech'd out a small shop in a neighboring town and found a Springbank 12 for less than what TotalWine wants for Springbank 10 and ironically had Balvenie 12 Doublewood for $76.99 and that shit is $52.99 at TW. hell even Evan Williams BiB was $18.99 and the Single Barrel was $34.99. sorta ridiculous honestly. They really gotta stop with this bourbon gouge soon or else scotch will be the cheaper option even with the tarif-... OH I see what they've done... fucking jews!

Can't say I've had that one. I'll admit I'm a bit new on scotches, especially with the more "well known" distilleries. It is very intensely sherry though, and you'll have the taste of prunes lingering your mouth well after your glass is dry. Hey guys, had a question and didn't really know where else to turn. I don't drink much but my brother is a big fan of Crown Royal. He likes salted caramel a lot too, and I'd heard that they ended up making some Salted Caramel Crown Royal. I wanted to get him a bottle for Christmas because he said he hadn't gotten ahold of any but that he wanted to try it, and I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Does anyone have any idea on where I should look? I seem to be shit out of luck on anything local.

That's fair. It used to be my no brainer go-to when it was still a 12 year old bottling. I gave the NAS version a try once the 12 year disappeared from shelves, and that was the last bottle of EJ I bought. It's not bad but the quality isn't the same and there's better values.

Yes it was. There is a grocery store that has a liquor store attached from it 30 minutes away. Any time the manager gets a bottle of good shit he doesn't put it on the shelf He saves it for people who wanna drink it and not make a $700 profit. He says 3 times a week he has randoms come in literally asking if they have a said bottle of limited release bourbon and he tells them no. They leave without buying anything.
The Staggs was $105 after tax, selling for around $700-$1400 online.
The Old Fitzgerald was around the same price selling for around $700 online. I'm more impressed with the Stagg. I generally buy Bookers, but this is hands down one of the best bourbons I've ever had.

Sounds like a LOT of places which is a good/bad thing. I have one similar where chatting them up and buying *nice* stuff from there they let me in on some picks.

Since this was at a grocery store I assume you are near Kentucky. I need to drive to Tenn to see if I can find some scores. This week they had a Willet straight rye for $150, Kentucky Owl bourbon for $175, Angel's Envy rye $155 :-/

Depends on your income level, doesn't it?
>I guess it'll stand well to dilution compared to the regular four roses which is only 40% alcohol.
It'll stand out in an old fashioned because it has a very high percentage of rye in the mash bill, even moreso than the Old Grand-Dad, which is already a quite high rye mash bill.
I recommended those two because they have lots of rye in the mash bills and the rye will cut through the mix of flavors in an Old Fashioned and stand out in a nice way.

Blended = bad is the result of blenders mixing in high proportions of cheaper flavorless column distilled grain spirit with young malt whisky and then using the good name of Scotch to sell it at high prices, until everyone caught on.
The stigma was earned by the scotch industry. Blended = bad is almost always true, especially if you're counting by volume instead of shelf space.

Got a bottle of this for my birthday recently and it's by far the best whisky I've ever had. Really smooth with a delicious smoky aftertaste. I don't have much whisky experience though. What other bottles would I enjoy based on this?

Man, there's a name I haven't seen in a long time (Bookers).

Funny story - I grew up in Bumretch, Midwest and the best bar around would serve Bookers for birthday shots. The bottle was rarely touched otherwise. People always bitched about how it was horrible and wouldn't pay money for it.

On my 21st I took the traditional Bookers shot and actually liked it. My friends thought I was crazy. Turns out that I just grew up in a shitty rural town with people that didn't know decent whiskey. Jack Daniels redneck cucks, most of 'em.

It's really not. It shits on the competition.
Unfortunately in some areas the demand has driven up the price and it no longer competes favorably, but in many other areas the price hasn't moved it just got harder to find. And there are no issues abroad.

If you had to pick an overhyped whisky then Eagle Rare is the better choice. It's more expensive and a lot worse.

>> No.15160521

>> No.15160871

lolwut

If you're paying $55 for Eagle Rare then you're:
1. Getting ripped off, hard
2. living in some shithole with a ludicrous sin tax.
3. Canadian speaking in CAD values

Last time I got Eagle Rare it was $30 for a 750. That was 2 years ago so either the price has almost doubled since then or see above. And $30 is very reasonable for the quality.

>> No.15160945

>>15160521
Here Eagle Rare goes for $90 AUD and Blanton's for $70 AUD.
IMO Eagle Rare would be an okay choice at $60, and Blanton's could hit $80 and be an okay choice. Currently they're never buy and good value respectively.

But that is exactly what I was talking about, Blanton's is absolutely not a $120 tier whisky. That's price gouging, it isn't reflective of the whisky. Don't end up becoming the boards second anti-shill.
