Why do Americans dump sugar, marshmallow, candy, corn syrup, etc on sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving?
Aren't sweet potatoes sweet enough already when cooked properly?

For the sake of argument, onions are also sweet when cooked properly.

A) it's a feast. It's the time to do those decadent things with food.
B) that's disgusting even so. Some brown sugar and/or a couple tbsp of molasses is all you need if you wanna sweeten up sweet potatoes (assuming you're feeding 6-8).
C) yes, they are sweet on their own, but again, it's a feast.
