Kind of better, yes.

Mostly it's different though. It's more tangy and eggy. And it has more umami. Definitely more suited to Japanese food than American mayo is. But if I'm doing western cooking I'll mostly just use American mayo. Sometimes I do mix a little Japanese mayo in too though.
