I'm going to be cooking a steak tonight. I've got potatoes, garlic, chili peppers, and onions. Was thinking of making mashed potatoes topped off with onions and the pepper, but wanted to see if /ck/ had any ideas.

put the steak over heat and then eat it when it's done

Sounds nice to be fair.
I usually just do a couple of fried eggs with mine.

Pommes anna would be a nice side and something different. Or just home fries and eggs

Ended up just topping my steak with the onion and chili and having bread on toast on the side. Tasted great, but I overcooked my steak to medium because I was focused on making everything else.

If you have rosemary, butter and balsamic vinegar you could make balsamic roast potatoes and onions. If they're red onions that's even better.

How are you cooking the steak grill, stove top, ect?

next time you do it, cut the potatoes into 1/4 inch slices and fry. When they're halfway done, add the peppers. A little bit later, put in the onions. About a minute from the end, add minced garlic and let it sautee by itself in the same pan. Mix, add salt, and enjoy.

When my uncle and I do steak we usually splurge on a couple big ass ribeyes (Alberta beef motherfucker). We cook them rare and just eat them by themselves and there's enough meat there that we don't need sides.
When I do sides however I usually go for like a caesar salad, potatoes, and some g bread.
