There have always been turkeys near my home. Most years there are only 4-5. Last year we saw a group of 4-5 with a ton of babies and this year there are around 40 turkeys. I was thinking of somehow killing one for Thanksgiving. The only problem is I'm in a suburban neighborhood, so it would be difficult to kill one. I have a .17HMR rifle but I think it would still be too loud to use and the neighbors might see. I've thought of using a club but they are easily spooked and run away if you get too close. Do you think it's worth it? Or should I just buy a turkey like a normal person?

Nah a wild turkey is gonna be kinda shit

The ones at the store are bred and fed for your consumption pleasure... and they still aren't that good.

They might try to fight you instead of running.

Wild turkey is a delicacy.

That's why you cook them.

Turkeys won't fight you. Even my youngest can chase the turkeys around our house and they'll go fleeing.

>Should I kill a turkey for Thanksgiving?
Yes, but you should adhere to the hunting laws of your area if possible.
Fall turkey season varies. Lookup the dates for your area. It's not uncommon for some areas to close the season before November, or to not open until about a week before Thanksgiving.
>The only problem is I'm in a suburban neighborhood, so it would be difficult to kill one.
Most places have laws that make it illegal to discharge a firearm for hunting within a minimum distance of a residence unless you have the owner's permission. Likewise for loosing a bow, however the distance is typically much smaller. I would invest in a bow if you think your neighbors wouldn't give you permission.

I don't care about laws, just not getting caught. Do you have think hitting one with my car would ruin it? They always stand in the road. "Accidently" hitting an animal isn't illegal right

The store one will be more tender and have more meat, but either way is fine.

Learn to make a trap.

It wpuld ruin the meat. You want it to die quick so the adrenaline rush is limited. Turkey shot if you're in hick subs, bow and arrow if you're in a more uptight community.

Have you ever killed and prepared a wild bird before? If not, now isn't the time to start.

If you do it, you will need a hunting license, and check your state regs. It would be a shame to spend Thanksgiving in jail.

Yeah we don't know about these turkeys. Or maybe you're one of those 4chan trolls who trying to trick people to do dangerous things.

Don't trust this guy OP. Only approach the turkeys if you're armed

Isn't this a question for /k/?
Get a ghillie suit and lather yourself in dirt, neutral smelling antiperspirant, etc.. Stalk em out with whatever you got.

Shoot for the head. I'd recommend subsonic and a suppressor so ou can nab more than just one in case the first one has some horrible worms or some shit.

>i live in a suburb

Yeah you're gonna do something stupid and get in trouble. Call up someone you know in a rural place and ask them if they mind you LARPing as a "man" on their property. At least then you won't need to worry about the noise.

>I would invest in a bow
This. I've taken a deer every year in my relatively suburban neighborhood with a bow. Just don't shoot towards roads, people or houses and shoot low.

>> No.15077790

Wouldn't they be eating a lot of garbage if they're in a suburban neighborhood? I can't imagine the meat will be very good.

I would encourage you to go for it though OP. Try walking up to one and choking it to death like a maniac. I'm sure they're relatively acclimated to people. Scare the shit out of your HOA.

If you have any hockey/baseball/football/soccer skill trying hitting one with the sport's projectile. A good hit would at least stun/immobilize the dumb bird.
