It's not the priciest beer, and it doesn't have the most history of anything I've ever put in my mouth, but Dieu du Ciel's cold-weather flavours (usually their autumn and winter seasonals) are exactly what I need today, and my local liquor store never carries them.

How do you feel about bitters?

English hops tend toward being either floral or earthy. I find those flavours works better for bitter pale ales than Cascade or Citra.

If you're looking for something a bit smoother, Wychwood's Hobgoblin's a pretty decent ruby ale. Their copper/blond/pale keeps changing (used to be Fiddler's Elbow), but it's usually pretty decent too. Bah Humbug might as well be Pumpkin Spice, but as far as sweet Christmas beers go, it's one of my go-to's.

Has anyone seen Schloss Eggenberg's stuff around? I used to get their Urbock all the time, but now I'm lucky to find their Christmas beers six months out of season.

in the US a 6pk of cheap beer is $4-$5, expensive gourmet 6pk is maybe $10. 4pk for $18 is easily the most expensive beer you'll find in a normal liquor store.

now in Australia a cheap 6pk is like $15 so I can see your confusion

I took a little trip to North Korea last year and I discovered a horrendous secret.

They have some of the absolute best fucking beer I've ever had. Not the stuff from the one brewery, but every restaurant, every hotel bar, the Pyongyang shopping mall that OFFICIALLY DOESN'T EXIST SHH, they all do their own microbrews, and they're almost all constantly competing with each other to have the best.

I mean, Belgian is amazing, German is amazing, Quebecois is amazing, but FUCKING NORTH KOREA

Expensive does not always mean classy and it certainly doesn't mean good. I try to find local brews when I travel as you can get better variety and more range of flavor combinations with the smaller breweries.
