>The word ćevap is derived from the Turkish kebab. The word is sometimes used in conjunction with the common South Slavic diminutive ending -čići Albanian: Qebapa/Qofte; Bulgarian: кeбaпчeтa, romanized: kebapcheta; Bosnian: ćevapi/ćevapčići; Czech: čevabčiči; Macedonian: ќeбaпчињa, romanized: ḱebapčinja;Serbian Cyrillic: ћeвaпи/ћeвaпчићи; Slovak: čevapčiči; Slovene: čevapčiči). The word ćevapi is plural; the singular form ćevap is rarely used, as a typical serving consists of several ćevapi.

etymology or not, doesn't matter
tea, cha, and chai all have the same etymology, but they're used in different languages
doner/doner kebab is common in Turkey and Germany
kebab is common in UK, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and South Asia
shawarma is common in Israel, Arabic-speaking nations, Malaysia, and Philippines, and also used especially when referring to Israel/Lavant-style chicken shawarma in the US
gyro is used in Greece in reference to a certain kind of souvlaki, and it's also used in the US to refer to an American dish based on the Greek souvlaki, made with beef or a mix of beef and lamb and spices such as rosemary and marjoram
donair is a Canadian recipe similar to the American gyro, largely made with beef and a sauce of condensed milk rather than the American yogurt-cucumber mix or Middle-Eastern garlic sauce
