Which U.S. state do you think has the most overall diverse variety of foods available to it? I was thinking some obvious ones like New York, Washington and CA but also Hawaii for more Asian stuff. I guess factor in fishing or farming industries they might have as well as local stuff. Which state would you pick to live in if food was the only determining factor?

I am a woman in the body of a man. I need surgery. Help.

I've just snorted a fat line of penguin repellant.

It's definitely NY or California, and it's not even close. But for NY that's only if you live in NYC, have money, and are willing to go to different Burroughs/ethnic neighborhoods. California has a much bigger variety actually eaten everyday by normal people. You can also technically get almost anything in Vegas, but that has little bearing on how the people who live there actually eat. I love Hawaii, but there's only a small handful of things you can't really find other places on the West Coast, and lots of things you can't get.

As a new yorker I strongly recommend toronto and canada in general. Their restaurants absolutely blow ours away. Shopping here blows them away in turn though. So live in new york and visit toronto for the best of both worlds.

Oddly enough, I would imagine Texas. Hear me out. Houston is technically the most diverse city in the US and has a massive immigrant population. Texas actually borders an entire other country with a distinct cuisine from the US (Canada has, what, poutine?). Texas is also huge and has its own regional cuisines, particularly bordering Louisiana (Cajun food) and New Mexico. There's grocery stores of all nationalities here, and Houston being very segregated allows people to flourish separately keeping their imported foods and traditions pretty authentic.

Having spent a lot of time in canada throughout 2018-2019 the canadian population is incredibly diverse compared to the US. Like, 1 in 5 people you meet are non-native. It's why their restaurants kick so much ass, even the more niche food cultures have to compete because there are just so many foreign born people opening restaurants. Here you're lucky if there's one greek restaurant, indian, jamacian etc in the entire city, so even if it's a shithole it stays open because people have no choice if they want that kind of food.

It's hard to find lau lau and squid luau on the mainland (L&L doesn't count), also decent poke (no, "poke bowls" are not poke). Guavas, papayas, and lilikoi are also hard to find anywhere near as good as in Hawaii. Saimin, manapua, and huli huli chicken don't exist on the mainland. And while you can order crack seed online you might as well be importing candy from Mongolia. Hawaii doesn't get a lot of things because everything is imported, so the grocery store variety is much smaller.

the bigger the city the more the variety, so I'm guessing new york
