You have a high chance of getting a chink derivative doing that unless you know what you are looking for, and even kikkoman will be better in that case. Getting truly good soy sauce reliably will generally involve online shopping and looking for Japanese aged soy sauce.

American Kikkoman is absolute garbage. However, the Japanese brand, meaning the one actually made and sold in Japan and not in the US is perfectly fine. No Japanese person is going to complain about Kikkoman because there is nothing wrong with the actual stuff they have over there. Not that it is a premium brand, in fact it is kind of the generic one but still far better than ours.

But anon it’s brewed in old bourbon barrels. They also have bourbon smoked spices

>Bluegrass Soy Sauce is microbrewed in small batches using only whole Kentucky grown Non-GMO soybeans, soft red winter wheat, and the purest limestone filtered Kentucky spring water. We ferment and age the soybean mash in re-purposed bourbon barrels. It’s smoky and brothy with hints of oak and a mild sweetness reminiscent of fine Kentucky bourbon.
