Is rum the same as whisky where it's recommended to let it rest after a pour for as many minutes as the number of years it was aged? (rule of thumb etc)?

That is the stupidest crock of shit I have ever heard.

Never really got too into rum. I enjoy whisky neat, but prefer rum for cocktails, so I've never really been too bothered to get any of the good stuff. Usually just stick to Havana Club Anejo for mixing g with eggnog in the winter, and pineapple juice in the summer.

why? it's normal to let whisky sit for a bit in the glass to let it 'open up'

Closest thing you can get to the old Brit Navy rum ration these days. Decent blend of Jamaican gold rums. Completely un-spiced. Love it!
Wife prefers Flora de Cana, but the only rum drink she prefers is mojitos which always call for a clear rum.

Letting a whisky rest is a total meme.
Whisky changes if the bottle has been open for a while (weeks), but it doesn't necessarily get better.

Absolutely drink it straight away while it is still as intense as possible.
