Let's settle this. Oil in pasta water? Yes or n

>> No.14944391

>>14944371
no, i'm not sure why that would even seem like a good idea.
but the reason for no, is that the sauce will not adhere to the pasta. Better quality pasta is cut from dyes that leave the surface rough, to allow the sauce to stick to it better.

>> No.14944392

>>14944371
no. it's fine without it. I never have an issue if I use enough water.

>> No.14944411

>>14944371
No. Oil floats on water so it does not coat it nor it gives it any flavor. You are just wasting your oil.

It prevents the water from boiling over.

turn down the stove, you don't need a rolling boil to cook some pasta

>> No.14944458

Unnecessary unless your own only pot is too small to use the proper amount of water and still have enough room to avoid boiling over, even then not really necessary if you just monitor the pot

Ye gluten free pasta usually sticks to the bottom and together a ton oil helps

You can, but it makes no sense.
After a few minutes just stir it with preferred tool.
oh, you did salt the water, right?

It's a meme, how the fuck do you fuck up noodles that you need oil so they don't "stick"?

>> No.14944621

Nah just salt heavily and stir every two minutes or so. I DO use it on lasagna though, I feel like that shit sticks mad hard.

>> No.14944635

>>14944621
This, you should use it for lasagna or ravioli ect

??? Fresh made ravioli goes up when it's ready, why would you need oil for it?

>> No.14944664

>>14944656
You push it through the oil as you put it in the pot so they dont stick together, its not 100% neccisary unless making a big batch

>> No.14944674

>>14944371
no
just butter your noodles after draining them

>> No.14944680

it does literally nothing, you're wasting the oil

Nah it doesn't really make much of a difference and don't really care for the oiltaste either and seems like a waste, it's perfectly fine with just salt and then butter after you've rinsed the water

>> No.14945402

>>14944935
Idk I'm a barillabro and it seems to stick a lot. You can stir and tear it apart but I usually am making pasta on the side to go with a dish that requires more attention so I'd rather not bother

Haven't noticed a difference with sauces sticking or not sticking afterwards too surprisngly so I'm all about it

how much do you fill your pot? i use a shallow pan and never had a boil over. i feel like every explanation was made up so people can defend Gordon Ramsay's shit cooking advice. ive even seen people trying to claim it ''perfumes'' the water
