why would anybody ever use cast iron? it is truly the redditors pan.

Daily reminder that calling anything you don't like reddit just makes you look like an idiot, and in this case a newfag (who most likely came from reddit).

Try putting koshe salt in it and scrub the salt with paper towels. The grit in the salt cleans it really quick.

wrong, and even if it does rust who gives a fuck, sand the rust off and coat it with oil.
>cant cook anything acidic
true, to an extent.
>only way to make it nonstick is a 5 hour process that wastes oil and energy
just use it, seasoning rituals are fucking retarded wastes of time.

it's a really old thing people used to do. hot water and a stiff plastic brush is all you need. even if I have a piece that has been sitting for years and got all sticky I can still clean the rancid oil off with a good scrubbing in scalding hot water

Fajitas and steaks. You can get them screaming hot and get a good sear and it wont stick. I use stainless if I want something to stick so that I can get more sticky bits for a pan sauce

Does /ck/ not cream themselves over Le Creuset? All Le Creuset is cast iron, and they sell skillets...! I guess they must be shit, though cause y'know, Anon can't figure out how this metal pan works. Durrr... how I wash?!!?! Durr....

Enamel is stickier than a well seasoned cast iron. Le Creuset has its uses, but it's not a 1:1 replacement for antique cast iron.
Ideally you buy both, and a multiply stainless pan, and quality carbon steel, and a copper saucepan. I guess it just sucks to be poorfag.

Anything that requires a lot of residual heat for high heat cook or a good sear will cook better in cast iron. I like a good sear on my steaks and hamburgers so that’s the main thing I use it for

With water or salt, you have to make sure it's dry and oiled. If there's salt residue left on a dry spot on a pan, a bit of humidity can start precipitating rust. Also don't store it on or in contact with things made of other metals without making sure it's got a decent coat for much the same reason (galvanic corrosion)
