why is japanese cuisine so hilariously bad?
the main staple dish of nipponland is sushi which is literally just fish on rice
their curry is just watered soup
ramen is just inferior version of authentic Chinese noodles
even instant noodles is taiwanese (Chinese) and not from japan

why could the nips not make a satisfactory cuisine?

God, I fucking hate Japanese curry. It isn't even a meme at this point it's just so fucking horrendously disgusting It cannot be understood. Every single time I sniff this absolute abomination towards the glory of Bharat and her sisterly states, I cringe in pure disgust.
Like literally all Japanese food, it tastes like generic salty fish and has no body, spice, or texture. They use pork to make it, shitting all over
and spiting all the important aromatic and meaty notes generally provided by the significantly less godless traditional Mutton.. The meat has nothing, it tastes like garbage juice. They put fucking alcohol and soy into the fucking gravy surrounding it. Fucking SOY. You might insult me, but holy fucking shit as a holeshitting punjabi curry is the only thing that I am proud of that was created by my people. Looking at the smug shitty """"Sticky"""" rice my blood boils and goes purple with the amount of pressure. It's so fucking awful. Look at those fucking carrots. They're so fucking obnoxious, sticking out of the curry and filling the garbage juice liquid with an extra breath of dirt. If I ever see Japanese curry ever again I will kill the entire Yamato population and then myself.

Since this is tonkotsu ramen, it's super rich as is so it doesn't need soft egg. The egg here is actually meant to be a textural departure from the rest of the soup, so the more grainy feel of a more cooked yolk is desired

I enjoy it. People on this board tend to complain that its bland, but its good on its own if you don't compare it to Indian curries.

Japanese curry is more like gravy both in consistency and taste. Sometimes you want a fiery, beautifully spiced Indian curry, and sometimes you want a mild, hearty Japanese curry loaded with creamy potatoes, carrots, and onions topped with a crispy breaded chicken cutlet.

Add onigiris and one overpriced apple per week, then it's near the truth.

>They don't have veggies/fruits at all or you don't eat them?
Yes they have but they are very expensive, except bananas.

>cafes are alright too
Just average/okay. The quality is nowhere near European stuff. They put a lot of effort on visual look but that's it. There's no taste and the service is usually awful.

> try some sweets/cake as well.
That shit was just disappointing. Again, okay but nothing special. They generally don't like western levels of sweetness so that might be the problem.

>try more regional/local foods
Funny. At one city the hostel owner urged me to try the local food, which was just different shit deep fried and served with a dipping sauce. Okay but nothing special. Japanese cuisine is okay but very overrated

The most common brands (Tasty, Vermont and Golden) are actually complete shit. Go to an asian (preferably Japanese, as it's your best bet for a good curry selection) market and look for Java or Premium. Failing that, Kokumaro is okay.

I like to have my curry with a well-done hamburger patty and some sauteed cabbage and served with ice-cold Asahi.

Man a good rice lager with some nice Japanese food really is enjoyable.

Japanese curry is nice, but it can be a little bland. I like to add to it, like soy extra soy sauce, a little ketchup, some worcestershire. And I think it's a nice meal. It really does complement the rice, and good rice in Japanese food is crucial. I always eat my curry with a jammy egg and some benishoga as well. It's *very* different from Thai and Indian curries, but it's a very tasty meal in its own right.

Yeah, jap curry is almost more of a base than anything else. I use beef broth in lieu of water in mine and either add crushed garlic or sub shallots for onions in addition to some finely chopped rehydrated shiitakes and various condiments. And of course, I don't use non-robust curries. It seems kind of strange to call them "kid stuff" but once you've had better curries (especially in restaurants - even CoCoIchi is better than any boxed roux) it's very much obvious that that's what Golden/Vermont/etc. are; if you selectively buy those it's either because you're feeding kids and want something utterly inoffensive or you grew up eating it and it's a comfort food.
