It's been 10.5 months since I've had any alcohol. 10.5 months since I bought these bottles. Just a little longer.

Also have
- old pulteney
- port charlotte islay barley

Which do I drink first? Rank my whisky. Tell me what to buy next.

idk if you've been to a total wine before but they have some brands, mostly cheaper alternatives to the brands they rub shoulders with in the same category, that you don't really see outside of their stores.

I've been branching out from just my preoccupation with traditional American bourbon and picked up some Suntory Toki today. This is my first real foray into Japanese whiskey (outside of the occasional hibiki-yamazaki-suntory highball trifecta) and I'm looking for suggestions. Do you think Toki is something that's best enjoyed neat or as a cocktail mix?

>>14866309
tl;dr I bought some Tomatin 14 and felt like I was dying after one dram, contacted the company and was waiting for a reply.
They got back to me today, said that their lot sample from that batch didn't show any quality issues. They also said that they would like to send me something as they didn't want this to be my first impression of Tomatin products. So I guess I can post what they send out when it arrives.

To elaborate, anon, you got sick because of poor cask quality control. You ingested whisky which was finished in casks which had been treated with sulfur candles.
This demonstrates such poor cask quality control that it basically means they filled casks with whisky without even inspecting them first, because all they'd have to do was fucking sniff the cask and they'd know it was no good for whisky if it was treated with a sulfur candle.

>Is there any way to know whether a distillery uses sulfur barrels or which ones have good quality control?
AFAIK any wine cask finished whiskey runs the risk of being sulfured by a sulfur candle treated cask. It's a common phenomenon in sherry cask finished whiskies as well, which are ubiquitous.
I've had several sulfured whiskies but all of them but one was mildly sulfured. The Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or was not mildly sulfured. Holy rotten eggs, Batman.
Glenmorangie: never again. I don't know how anyone got within five feet of that cask without noticing the rotten egg stank. Abysmal cask quality control.
A Glenmorangie shill here likes to do damage control posts implying it's all in my head, but this is a real, commonly known phenomenon you can Google. Jim Murray has written on it.

Anybody ever have particles in their whiskey? From some quick research, apparently lipids can come out of solution in lower proof whiskey that's non chill filtered. This stuff is 42% and non chill filtered so I'm assuming that's the case here. The particles look kinda dark in the pic but in reality they're white/translucent. Anyway, bout to crack this open and give it a taste.

Why are bourbons usually proofed to 50+% ABV? I usually see scotch and irish whiskeys at 40, 43, or 46 percent and only exceeding those when they have a cask strength bottling.

Terrible analogy. Fun gameplay is the most important attribute of a video game.
Delicious flavor is the most important attribute of a whiskey. I have a sneaking suspicion everyone who uses "smooth" as their go-to descriptor is, in fact, an NPC.

You sir are the dummy. If the ambient humidity in the rickhouses is low and the temperature is high then water will evaporate at a higher rate than alcohol. I guess it depends on what state you're in, but in Texas we have a bunch of things open that are stashed in various parts of the store, ranging from cheap to $100-150 bottles.

If you're interested in something, ask someone there if they have it open to sample and most of the times they will. If not, they typically have sampler packs and airplane bottles of some stuff for a dollar.

That works out to 8.5 standard 'drinks' per person. Just shy of buying 3 six-packs and splitting down the middle. I used to drink that much and imo mine was light alcoholism (though I'd do it in 6 hours not 10).

IMO that puts you just over the fence of technical alcololism; it's definitely quite physically unhealthy/bad for your brain.

However I'd also opine that it's not what I think of as 'problem' drinking. Sounds like pretty emotionally-healthy drinking. If you're coasting like that, you're probably not slurring or dropping shit. Does your wife seem concerned for your physical health or concerned about you becoming all the things connotated with alcoholism?

>> No.14920062

I wouldn't say it's alcoholism, but it is an unhealthy amount to binge in a day.

Slow it down a little. About half of what you're doing on a Sunday.
