>Testing also revealed that more than 60% of the pork products had E coli on them, as did around 70% of the beef products, 80% of the chicken products, and more than 90% of the turkey products. Price shared his findings with the team researching a Channel 4 Dispatches investigation into American meat, which is due to air on Monday night, and commented: “It’s an unacceptable rate given that it is controllable, but the industry has been very successful in fighting any kind of regulations there.”

Friendly reminder that if this was an American article about British food saying the exact same thing, the burgers ITT would be making fun of the disgusting limey meat. Cope harder.

Honestly this. I did raw carnivore with meat from Wal-mart for 2 weeks and I didn't get sick months within the range of doing it.
I did it with meat I bought from Wal-mart not Wal-mart brand meat. They add some shit to it that makes it taste disgusting raw.

what kind of town/area do you live in and how do you get your meat?
is local butchery actually much of a thing or is that some idealized midwest fairy tale?

There aren't many independent butchers here, but the small grocers often cut their own meat (have in house butcher.) Hell, even Walmart does it. Hogs are raised locally. Beef really doesn't matter. Beef should be hung for a little while after being slaughtered. Then it's sold by sections from distributors to the stores. It's not like farmers sell directly to the grocer/butcher. It goes to a processor first.

There's maybe two "butchers" in the whole city, but one's a speciality shop that also doubles as an importer for British goods and crap. Most grocery stores with a meat department have their own butchers but also sell pre-packed meat. Their butchers pack meat for them as well, and if you have a request for a cut or grind, they'll usually oblige and sell to you at the standard price, no upcharge anything. Most of the meat is local, but the national brands of pre-packed stuff can come from anywhere. They also sell imported and exotic meats like kangaroo and such, but that's a niche part of the store.

I find that really hard to believe considering every time there's a few people that get ecoli there is a story on the news about a meat recall. If OP was not full of shit there would be recalls every single day.

You can find a butcher near you almost anywhere here in Iowa. Lots of tiny towns even have them. I get half a pig and a quarter cow every year from my wife's brother and we pick it up from their local butcher. It's pretty fucking awesome to not have to buy Walmart meat.
