Ebay has some really good antique copper cookware where the tin as worn away. It's really expensive to pay to have them retinned so the prices are great. If you can learn to retin, which isn't that hard, you can make a nice profit refurbishing them.

The basic process of retinning is to soak them in lye solution and use a wire brush to scrub the tin off. Buy some food grade flux and tin, no lead, and use a wad of insulation and a propane weed killing torch for the application.

I buy all my cookware used from thrift stores, and I have yet to see a case where someone was stupid enough to donate copper cookware. I have plenty of tri-ply and some five-ply stuff, but no copper.

Or the store is smart enough to poach the copper pieces instead of selling them.

Is copper not just a meme? What's so great about it?

There is a difference between the as seen on tv copper bullshit and actual thick copper pans. The good stuff transfers heat slightly better. It's not really worth the cost imo. It looks pretty but a pain to maintain.

Reacts very fast to changing temperatures so it heats up very fast, but also cools down quickly. It's perfect for sauces, where the ingredients need different temperatures in a short time.

that's the thing, I work in a thrift store, I've never once seen copper cookware come in that wasn't purely ornamental shit like semi-modern revereware. the people who buy copper cookware know what it's worth.

eBay is weird for copper cookware. It's where I bought mine. There are some really worn out pans that are very expensive being sold for decoration, and then there are pans that still have good tin lining being sold way cheaper - it's just a case of looking around.

In case you don't know.. Don't try to sear anything in them, also don't let them get too dry or too hot - the tin will melt and get onto your food.

I had copper cookware about 20 years ago that I got from the 1960s from my grandmother but I was short on cash and really needed the money. It was almost in mint condition never used. I sold eight pieces for $3500. I really wish I would have hung onto it but I really need the cash like I said.

One of the best ways to tell the crap from the good stuff is to look at the quality of the handle/rivets and the thickness of the copper. There is so much flimsy copper on ebay.

I got my copper cookware for $90 - 4 pots - 2 pans, pots are french and thicc, pans are handmade. They're great. I'm glad I didn't have to pay $3500, curious what was special about yours, Anon?

Interesting, I'm not sure I could tell. Could you post an example?

I'm curious. I got my pots cheap but they're heavy, and they seem pretty thick.

Thanks, Anon. That's a nice pan. My pots are 2mm. Not so easy for the pans - they're folded at the top - at the top they're ~3mm, so I'm guessing they're about 1.5mm...They were cheaper, they're old and have hammer marks, kinda like pic related, just not as fresh looking.
