you gotta be ready to drop someone entirely or lose a job over it. If you're emotionally ready for that, you will likely never have to.

I quit for a year once out of remembrance for a family member who died. 7 months in i was chilling with a couple guys from work and they were goading me on about having a drink, 'like come on man, it's been seven months, you're uncle would forgive it by now'.

I was very careful to keep the tone and just said 'no, but thanks.' The second time they asked I kept the EXACT same conversational tone and said 'this is important to me, we can move on or I can find other people to find time with.' They paused a bit but moved on pretty naturally because people can usually pick up on it when you're not lying.

I didn't pause for drama or drop it like a threat or a judgment on them. I kept the tone perfectly conversational because I did want to keep chilling. However I had previously made total peace with myself that I would drop any relationship that deliberately challenged my sobriety for that year. The good news is that over the age of 25 or so, people who are really worth being around at all get the hint quickly.

It's important though that people know you're happy with their choice to drink and that you still enjoy them after a few. Good luck anon.

The Private Select is genuinely interesting stuff, they age it for like an extra six months beyond Maker's 46 in a variety of different oak barrels, so every bottling is unique. Plus, Maker's is like only one of like three commercially available wheated bourbons, anything above that and you'll have to commit to hunting it down like Weller's or Pappy, so you're paying for something very unique within commercially available bourbons, but you're taking a risk with it since every selection is different, so still not worth it to me, if I was rich though, I'd buy like five different bottles and compare them all.

Made limoncello but didn't bother doing the sweetening step, so it's just lemon/orange zest infused vodka.

I think about quitting. I don't have huge problems with alcohol, I drink every 3-4 months but usually binge drink, yeah. I get drunk rather fast embarrass myself and have terrible hangover that lasts for 1.5-2 days already. And feel SO depressed for a week or so. And I'm not depressed when I'm not drinking. And when I drink just a bit I get very-very sleepy and just want to go home.

And I never liked strong spirits. I have half a bottle of jim beam and I drink it like vodka because I still can't stand the taste and alcohol even after all these years, I want to throw up.

The tax difference between 40% and 47% is £1.40, which is way less than the price variance between stores / sales.
It is not the states fault, it's a business tactic used by US companies. Foster good will and positive reviews in the largest market to maintain a high perceived value for your products. Then cut costs and raise prices internationally to make bank. It's very rare for scotch companies to change abv internationally, even where the alcohol taxes are higher (like in Australia).

Sonication accelerates the deterioration of liquor. The taste of decades since bottling.
