I wish we were back in the days where lobster was for poor people because it’s so good but so expensive at the same time. It’s definitely my go to dinner food when I’m out to eat at a fancier restaurant. Either lobster or New York strip steak.

Do y’all like lobster?

Yea but it’s honestly not worth the price.

I went to a place called Mount Vernon in the greater Boston area. The decor was straight out of the 80s, every single wait staff had looked like they'd been there since the tea party. But Holy shit, they knew lobster, and you could get three lobsters for $33. Their wait staff was incredibly friendly and fun and did a great job showing our newbies how to properly tear one apart.

10/10, fuck Legal Seafood, go to Mount Vernon.

i don't get the lobster hype, it tastes fairly bland to me. i'd rather have practically any other seafood.

Lobster is lovely. Generally pick up some a few times a year. Wife's birthday, anniversary, etc.

About the same price as shrimp, but a lot of shell weight, so the yield per dollar isn't as favorable... but wifey and the kids love it, so it's worthwhile.
I'm fine with the U6 shrimp. Little guys are the size of hotdogs.

I have acquaintances who refer to the establishment thusly.
The company probably feels that using the word "dead" on their signage and advertising would offer negative enterprise value, and conflict with their already dubious claims about freshness.

Probably safe to open a place called Dead Meat. Gotta focus on quality and have good humor in the advertising.

"Steak and Lobster". If you wanted to fuck a hot chick back in the late 80's this is the meal you'd give her, in a dimly lit place with orange carpet on the floor. Yes I know orange carpet was 70's but restaurants still had orange carpet well into the mid to late 80s. They didn't change decor every few months like they do now.

Steak and lobster, a few martinis and voila.

My favorite was always the small wooden hammers.
I have fond memories of a campground down in Maryland that had an all you can eat crab event. Stretches of picnic tables with a bib and small wooden hammer for everyone. Freshly caught and cooked crab periodically dumped in a line down the middle of the tables.

This.

The high cost of shipping it inland made it expensive and then companies started marketing it as high end.

It sort of like diamonds in that regard - a totally self - inflated market that run purely on hype.

I mean - I like lobster, but I've never thought it was worth the $$

They weren't "for poor people".
It was fed to prisoners because it was going to go off. The riot wasn't because the prisoners were getting sick of eating it. They were literally getting stick from eating it, because as you can expect from seafood about to go off, some of it actually was off.

>> No.14820397

>>14820389

You are mixing facts.

Lobster go bad notoriously quick - as is the case with most shellfish. Pretty much the second they die they its stomach enzymes seep out into the rest of its body, which makes the meat go bad quickly.

So yes - prisoners were fed bad lobsters and they rioted.

However - it was always considering a poor person's food because of the sheer abundance of them on the coasts.

After storms, lobster would wash up on shore by the hundreds, and, if you were quick, you could pick them up, cook them, and eat them before they had the chance to spoil. The first few years for the settlers were notoriously difficult, and the abundance of lobster probably became the crustacean's undoing in the settlers’ eyes. They would have eaten lobster almost constantly, and the smell of thousands of dead lobsters on a beach could have understandably put them off the food entirely.

So as time went on, lobster was identified as a subsistence food, something only to be eaten out of desperation. The people who still ate it were poor or lower class, and it was otherwise used as livestock feed and fertilizer.

Dead Meat BBQ is apparently already the name of a team, so your feels are safe unless you go to barbecue contests.
