What sorcery do supermarkets employ to ward off fruit flies? I buy some fruit and leave it on the counter for like 2 days and the little fucks are everywhere. Meanwhile Supermarkets have a fuckhuge amount of fruit just sitting out all day and I never see a fruit fly there. Why? How?

Kind of this plus it's clean but it's not too cold then why would the butcher rooms be at a comfy 10°C and still have UV flycatchers bot there and in the storage are at 4°C

There's a big-ass bug light right in the foyer, open your eyes next time you walk in there.

The real answer is they are already present elsewhere, somewhere you don’t notice, and can fly unimpeded to your fruit once the scent reaches them.

I’ve had, at various rental properties throughout my life similar problems with flies and ants. You can get 12 ft x 400 ft .3 mil super thin plastic sheeting at home depot for $20. You can seal the kitchen with painter’s tape and plastic and leave samples out. This will help you narrow down the entry points.

Floorboard cracks/gaps, areas around piping, particularly kitchen sink piping, broken screens, gaps around cabinets, etc. You find them all and clear silicone them in. Before the silicone, a blast of raid spray. If the gap is too big, buy trim and silicone it in place. If the screen is ripped, take a picture, call a screen guy for a fix, then attach the screen bill and the picture to the next rent check and debit it. Nobody will say shit.

It’s science. These bastards come from somewhere, figure it out. If you seal off your kitchen and nothing happens, guess what? It’s probably not your kitchen. Also don’t discount the efficacy of outdoor spray. If you find shit coming in from one side only, holocaust it with outdoor spray and they’ll find greener pastures. I guess the net takeaway is that it is a solvable problem, just focus on figuring out the exact mechanics of it and the solution will follow from that. Also you want the goes on white, dries clear silicon and a few putty knives of various widths.

Because they likely have them on the inside if the storage area just by the door so you just don't see it and one of those doors is likely right by the fruit and vegetables area, take a stroll back to their trash compactor if you want to see flies

I've never seen a fly in the supermarket before. See sparrows all the time though.

their eggs are in the rind, they hatch and then you have fruit flies. the end

>> No.14801475

It's more likely that their eggs are actually on the fruit that you buy, which hatch soon after you take produce home and let them sit for a few days.
