Gin. Getting a decent gin doesn't break the bank and is healthier for you. Getting cheap anything is gonna kill you, it's just a matter of how much you gotta spend to get anything half decent.

Decent vodka is the least cheap. Cheap tequila is the worst for you but getting good stuff isn't as bad as vodka. Whiskey has cheap options but you gotta hunt for them or get help, and rum starts getting good once you move past the spiced trash, but even cheap spiced rum isn't as bad for you.

The starting price for good cheep gin though is probably the lowest.

Americans don't take this advice: >>14775188 All vodka sold in the US is identical for legal reasons. Most of it is awful too and it hardly matters how much you spend.

>The starting price for good cheep gin though is probably the lowest
I've not seen a palatable gin for under $80AUD. Gin is perhaps the worst cheap spirit, often only palatable with large quantities of juice, herbs, and soda all the way into the mid-top shelf price brackets.

>> No.14775655

>>14775601
Anon we're talking cheap booze in general. There are tiers to this shit and it sounds like you're talking several tiers above what any sensible person would call "cheap". Everything else I mentioned would have tiers above the $30USD mark ($40AUD).

Or is all gin just that fucking expensive imports in Austrailia and they don't make anything good there themselves? Because I can get a decent gin for $30USD. In the under $20 range Seagram's is the only real choice, but even my choice for cocktail mixing is a $25 london dry.

If we're looking for the best bang for your buck in the $40-60 price range though I'd go with a rum. And it would be no more than $43 for a phenomenal Agricole.

Vodka. It's basically water and ethanol, with the entire point being how many impurities have been filtered out, so all your calories are coming from the alcohol, which is going to be present in any other liquor/liqueur you buy/consume at the same abv. Alcohol isn't healthy, by the way. Not by any stretch of the imagination. But a vodka and club soda is always going to be "healthier" than a low calorie, light beer, or hard selzer or whatever's trendy right now.

Ultimately, the issue isn't the healthiness of the drink but how you consume the drink. Hard liquors are nice for price saving, but it is very difficult to make a drink with hard liquor last for a long time while still being semi-healthy AND actually making you drunk/feel drunk.

This. I think 6x is key. Titos is also 6x. You basically just want ethanol, from some grain/starch/fruit that suits your body, plus purified water to round it out. There are no complex proteins, no oak wood esthers, no weird sugars. Your body can piss out clean ethanol much quicker than it can rid itself of whisky oak juice, or some weird gin herb, hops bittering chemicals, or wine sugars.

One batch works out to about 7 bottles of 40% spirits which would run to about $250 at your local Dan Murphy’s. So two batches you’ve broken even and three batches you’re saving money.
Add to that the other uses besides marine stoves and paint diluent- antiseptic, preservative, accelerant, trade good. The wife wasn’t a huge fan of me getting this but I have half a dozen flagons of white lightning under the house in case shit happens (as it did with COVID).
