Alcoholism is much different than enjoying drink.

Alcoholics typically have to start their day with a drink and drink all day. Enjoying a wine, spirits, or beer is normal. It is a powerful social lubricant and has been the glue that has binded heroic figures.

The macedonians had large drinking halls and in those halls they birthed an aristocracy that conquered most of the known world. No reason to dislike drinking unless you are biologically weak to good drink.

>> No.14705049

Weird fuss about the difference between casual drinking and alcoholic. Too many people rush to label heavy drinkers 'functional' alcoholics. To me it is about the disordered coping mechanisms and learned feebleness that comes with prolonged alcohol dependence, usually using it to escape or avoid confronting reality. You can be a heavy drinker and still not be an alcoholic, functional or otherwise, but if you have a unhealthy relationship with alcohol that you cannot confront and control then you are an alcoholic. The flavour difference there is the degree of psychological and physical dependence. You can be a habitual gambler or you can gamble big every now and then, but you aren't considered a gambling addict until the behaviour disrupts your life, you feel unable to correct it and it takes control away from you so you can no longer do the things you'd ideally prefer to do.

I drank a single Hoegaarden on Monday night, bought the orange peel and coriander seed flavor on a whim. I'd never tried it before or tried any wheat beers previously, it wasn't to my tastes but I finished it anyway. Tuesday I wake up with an outrageous hangover even though I wasn't even slightly buzzed the night before. Is this some sort of wheat intolerance? I don't eat bread often but I've never had any other symptoms of wheat allergies. I've got 3 of them left and I'd rather not waste them but I don't want to feel like shit after drinking them. I often have a beer or two of an evening but never get drunk or have anything like a hangover the next day.

My favorite was a Porfidio reposado that I just can't find anymore, it was like $120 a bottle like 15 yrs ago and had a blown cactus in the bottle, but for now it's Herradura I find it more conservative in pricing ($42) and better than Patron. The pictured bottle is the anejo Porfidio, but the one I bought was reposado with the same blown glass cactus inside the bottle which for whatever reason I always prefer over anejo.
That bottle disappeared in a move.
