Sure, but a cow still has to be perpetually pregnant to produce milk which creates calfs, and dairy farmers don't need many male calfs so they inevitably are culled. And then the perpetual pregnancy is really taxing on the female cows, and after they stop producing milk they are also culled. So I can see how milk is always going to be a tricky issue, and the only way to not cause significant harm to the cows would be expensive and inefficient. Eggs are totally different in that they are not very taxing to healthy hen breeds, if they are fed a good diet and after they no longer lay many still keep them around.
