Bulk vegetables, bulk fruit, bulk drinks, bulk rice, bulk pasta, multipacks of canned food, bulk packs of single serve frozen foods great for work lunches, I could really go on and on. You spend a lot in one go, but you save shitloads of money overall VS buying smaller packs at the grocery store. I'm guessing we're only referring to food items, because obviously stocking up on household items, (toilet paper, laundry detergent,) in bulk is really a no-brainer.

the only downside to costco is that they only carry 1-2 brands of anything, kirkland and/or some outside brand usually, and this can mean you arent really saving depending on the circumstances

refried beans being the first example that comes to mind. The only refried beans costco sells are the rosarita organic ones. If you wanted rosarita organic beans then costco is almost certainly the cheapest place to buy them, but if you're fine with conventional house brand, then buying kroger or whatever is probably cheaper. There are many examples of this in Costco.

Still, I do my primary shopping there, though I've been buying less produce there because I find I was wasting too much of it; mostly just broccoli, carrots, and fruit these days.

YEs. Eggs. Hebrew nationals. IT's the only place I can buy them, because the price is unreasonable elsewhere. My Vet recommended their dog food, and it's helped my upper grow to be an absolute muscle bound beast.

Butter, their pizza is decent frozen pizza at like half the price you usually have to pay. I buy cheese and add my own toppings. Rotisserie chickens are always cheaper there than anywhere else. I get butter too and just freeze the excess. And if you have kids the snacks are dirt cheap. less than 10$ for enough granola bars and fruit snacks to last two months.

I like Costco because while it is supposed to be designed to make you explore for foods (until you start to learn your specific store and go straight where you need to), it simplifies things for me because I don't have 20 brands to choose from. And what their product team chose is generally good. Gas is a good 5-10c cheaper than the cheapest gas station, as well. And the gas is rated top-tier (only a few gas stations actually use that highly rated gas, I'm not sure what they are in the states, only know Canada). Their car batteries are amongst the highest-rated as well. I get a lot of protein powder from there because it is only marginally more expensive than the isolate wheys at myprotein. They also have a cheap as shit food court.

I find the types of people who shop at Costco more favourable. Even if it's cheaper for a large family to shop there, I often find the initial membership cost weeds out the absolute dregs (in Canada). It isn't meant to be a boutique grocer, but the membership makes it almost act like one. There are certain gas stations you have to buy a membership to as well, and they tend to have better clientele.

If you are super poor disregard this, you probably enjoy standing behind a 50 year old man in basketball shorts and flip flops buying 12 year old children food and can smell his sweaty feet.
