I can't figure out why people love steak so much, it's pretty bland, and the texture isn't enjoyable either, i would take a hamburger patty over a steak any day

I realize to some degree that I am an outlier, but I find it very hard to believe that people like steak as much as they claim to, I think they pretend to like it because it's associated with high social status

Why the hell is this mediocre food so worshiped?

No, it's just what low status people think is high status. That being said, a good steak is delicious. Enjoyed by low and high classes.

i never buy steak because i don't like it, but i have had steak at a variety of restaurants, and prepared by friends/family
never had a steak that i enjoyed, they're ok, but i'd rather eat just about any other form of meat

i think part of it is that steak is usually served in a purist type of way, just with salt and pepper, maybe if people made steak with a sauce or marinade i would like it more, but i also hate the texture of steak

>> No.14678525

It depends on the cut of steak you buy and how you cook it. If you buy Select and cook it well done, of course it is going to suck. If you get a Prime cut of ribeye, NY or T-bone and cook it rare with salt, pepper, some butter and get a great crust then its going to be fantastic.

Part of the reason you may enjoy hamburger is because the steaks you've eaten are either overcooked or really tough cuts better suited for jerky or stew. A "good" hamburger is 70/30 and that fat rendering off during the cooking process is what you've lacked from your mediocre steaks.

Do you feel better now OP? there's nothing like going on to a back water image board and telling a bunch of faggot losers how much of a pretentious git you are. Thank you for baring your soul to us Caspar Milquetoast.

I can now sleep well tonight knowing that somewhere in the world some Fopdoodle is unable to handle a well grilled piece of meat.

OP sits in front of the feeble light of his computer, his monitor from 1992 slowly fading. His keyboard covered in the crumbs of half eaten tendies. He can barely see the screen because of the flecks of spittle and food covering it from his past impotent rages. Just then a voice calls to him. "if you don't come up here now I'm throwing these vienna sausages out" (it's his mother). "Why won't she die?" he thinks to himself... but then who will clean his benis when it gets dirty. he sighs and tromps up the stairs from his basement. "coming mommy" he whimpers.

I started loving steak when I was probably 10 at no point did my love of a nice properly cooked steak ever come from a belief it had anything to do with status.

Clearly you have a damaged sense of taste and smell. did you have an accident when you were little?

you are a sad little man, and you have my pity.

The problem is people are trying to ve health conscious while simultaneously indulging, which doesn’t work. Because lean cuts of steak suck. It IS the marbling. I thought steak sucked too until I tried making it myself with better cuts.

For your friends and family it's entirely possible that they have been buying and cooking steak incorrectly and just don't know it because that is what they consider the proper way to do it.

As for restaurants, much less likely but still possible. I've been to fabulous steakhouses where I paid upwards of $100 for an orgasmic steak, I've also paid $30 for a steak at two different restaurants where one made it exceptional and one overcooked it and made it bland and unedible.

And the best way to get a good steak would be to try to make your own. Next time you go to the store get a ribeye or sirloin which is marked USDA Prime The top left of the chard is NOT what you want when it comes to marbling. The bottom right is what you should strive for but will likely not find in a supermarket, get the closest you can get. Set it out to come to room temperature, then heavily season both sides with salt and pepper. Set your stove and cast iron/carbon steel pan to high until it's raging hot, or if on the grill set it to high until its the same. Make sure its at room temp and not right out of the fridge, then 2:30 each side, and let it rest on a plate. I usually add more butter and crushed garlic on top, basting if its on the stove as much as I can.

Buy some steak sauce if you want but try not to use it.

Maybe if you live in some shithole that taxes good cuts of red meat out of the reach of the working/middle class, but here in the states every redneck wearing a sleeveless shirt and jean shorts will grill up some sirloins on the dirt driveway leading up to his double-wide. Unless you're talking about very premium cuts like filet mignon or wagyu there isn't anything "classy" about steak here. It's just another type of meat.

>> No.14679315

Of all the common foodstuffs, meat is often priced out of super low income families. Anytime some former poor makes a buck, they think spending $5 or $10 on a steak is a treat. Oddly enough, that same ignorance keeps them away from vegetables.

>>14678515
I don't care if you say people have cooked steak for you, or that you've had it at restaurants. #1 Most people buy crappy steaks and don't know how to cook properly. and #2 Restaurants vary by huge amounts, unless you're having a steak in an actual steak house, with a good reputation, then who's to say you've not just been served mediocre steak? Lots of places try to claim Fillet as their premium steak, when it's actually quite flavorless compared to a ribeye.
