Most supermarket cakes and "homemade" cakes are shitty box mixes with icing that has so much sugar it is actually crunchy. Cake is acceptable with a good fluffly recipe that isn't dry and at least three layers. Not two. Then the icing needs to be not instant-diabetes sweet and you are good to go.
