I think hot dogs are underrated because they're pleb food and popular in America. A truly great hot dog is hard to find but when you do it's totally worth it.

hot dogs are salt/smoke/meat bombs, so they need contrast in the form of acidity and texture. While ketchup fags are obviously wrong, I think the most egregious plebes are bacon and cheese fags.

>cream cheese or greek yogurt, pickled jalapenos, regular ruffles.
>mustard, raw onions, barebones slaw (cabbage, vinegar, salt)

Those are the two for me. Sauerkraut is good if you're using real sausages, not wieners, and then it's on crusty bread with dijon

i used to make hotdogs and load them with veggie toppings

now i do grilled sausage, onions, mushrooms, peppers, and cheese sandwhiches .... usually with a tortilla and black beans instead of bread
