It's a good gin. Probably the most cucumber-forward easily available gin out there.

For an all-arounder gin, I would suggest Ford's. Then you can go explore other London Drys with different flavor profiles, i.e. piney, floral, citrusy, etc.

I think an Old Tom style makes for easy daily sipping, tbqh.

No. Good gin. Make a martini with fresh (less than 1 month after opening) dry/french vermouth and with two dashes of orange bitters. I like .5 oz vermouth and 2 oz gin.

People will complain about anything less than a 10:1 ratio for a martini, this is because they drink vermouth anything after a week of opening when it's not in the fridge as if vermouth lasts forever. It's like wine, you need to drink it fast-ish.

>> No.14649063

It really depends what you're planning on doing with it. If you just wanna mix it with tonic, you could've bought two bottles of gordons instead. You won't taste anything after the 5th one anyway. Otherwise, yeah it's great, gg

Here a bottle of Hendricks goes for $75.
I don't see how it can justify that price given it's not good enough to sip on. In fact it's not even so good that a Hendricks gin and tonic wouldn't be improved with lemon/lime and herbs. At which point it could be vodka.
You'd be far better served buying a bottom shelf gin like Windsor / Vickers / Gorordon's for >$35 and drinking it with craft tonic water for like $4/L.
Anything more expensive needs to be enjoyable on it own, or with a neutral mostly flavourless tonic. If you're dropping money, get something craft with a local botanical and a little barrel age. Or at least a fuck high abv justified because you can use less in your mixers / drink fewer of them.

It's people who claim to like gin, but would gag at the idea of putting it in their mouth as is, that allow mediocre stuff like this to exist at mid shelf price points. Imagine a mixing whisky at $75.
